Electronic States in Crystals of Finite Size

Electronic States in Crystals of Finite Size PDF Author: Shang Yuan Ren
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 0387263039
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 209

Book Description
The theory of electronic states in the traditionally solid state physics is essentially a theory of electronic states in crystals of infinite size. However, any real crystal always has a finite size. This book presents an analytical theory on the electronic states in ideal low-dimensional systems and finite crystals recently developed by the author based on a differential equation theory approach. It gives some exact and general fundamental understandings on the electronic states in ideal low-dimensional systems and finite crystals and provides new insights on some fundamental problems in low-dimensional systems such as the surface states, quantum confinement effects etc, some of them are quite different from what are traditionally believed in the solid state physics community.

KDP - Family Single Crystals

KDP - Family Single Crystals PDF Author: L.N Rashkovich
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1000112381
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 202

Book Description
The KDP family of single crystals is composed of compounds of alkali metals with light or heavy (hydro, deutero) water and oxides of phosphate or arsenate, including ammonium, potassium, rubidium and caesium dihydro- and dideutero-phosphates, and similar arsenates. While not occurring in nature, their production exceeds that of any other water-soluble crystals and the demand for bigger and more optically pure crystals is ever increasing. KDP-Family Single Crystals is a comprehensive investigation of the crystallization mechanism for these systems. The first part of the book collects the majority of the available data on the physico-chemical analysis of these systems. This is complemented by a review of contemporary concepts related to the crystal growth dislocation mechanism under the influence of impurities, changing supersaturation, and temperature. This is not only relevant to the growth of KDP single crystals but to the majority of crystals grown from low- and high-temperature solutions. Finally, attention is given to the important problem of speeding up the production processes for the growth of these crystals while maintaining the quality of the crystals. The in-depth coverage that KDP-Family Single Crystals provides to the art of crystal growth techniques makes it an essential reference work for all those working in the field of crystal growth and to those using KDP-family crystals in quantum electronics devices.

Geometry of Crystals, Polycrystals, and Phase Transformations

Geometry of Crystals, Polycrystals, and Phase Transformations PDF Author: Harshad K. D. H. Bhadeshia
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1351629115
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 252

Book Description
Organized into a two-part structure aimed at readers of differing experience levels, Geometry of Crystals, Polycrystals, and Phase Transformations is accessible to both newcomers and advanced researchers within the field of crystallography. The first part of the text covers what any reader in the material sciences, physics, chemistry, earth sciences and natural sciences in general should know about crystallography. It is intentionally concise and covers sufficient material to form a firm foundation. The second part is aimed at researchers and discusses phase transformations, deformations, and interface crystallography in depth. The phase transformations are limited to those dominated by crystallography. The entire book contains worked examples and uniquely deals not just with crystals but aggregates of crystals and solid-state transformations between crystals.

Aperiodic Crystals

Aperiodic Crystals PDF Author: Ted Janssen
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 0192557815
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 547

Book Description
Over the past several decades, a This book deals with the characterisation of the structure, the structure determination and the study of the physical properties, especially dynamical and electronic properties of aperiodic crystals. The treatment is based on a description in a space with more dimensions than three, the so-called superspace. This allows us to generalise the standard crystallography and to look differently at the dynamics. The three main classes of aperiodic crystals, modulated phases, incommensurate composites and quasicrystals are treated from a unified point of view, which stresses similarities of the various systems. The book assumes as a prerequisite a knowledge of the fundamental techniques of crystallography and the theory of condensed matter, and covers the literature at the forefront of the field. Since the first edition of this book in 2007, the field of aperiodic crystals has developed considerably, with the discovery of new materials and new structures. Progress has been made in structure determination, in the interpretation and understanding of the structural characteristics and in the calculation of electrons and phonons. This new edition reflects these new developments, and it includes discussions of natural quasicrystals, incommensurate magnetic and multiferroic structures, photonic and mesoscopic quasicrystals. The second edition also includes a number of new exercises that give the reader an opportunityt to check their understanding of the material.
