Category : Juvenile Nonfiction

(more than 400,000 copies sold) for kids — told through the story of a boy who learns a valuable “bucket filling” metaphor and watches it come to life as the day unfolds. Every moment matters. Each of us has an invisible bucket. When our bucket is full, we feel great. When it’s empty, we feel awful. Yet most children (and many adults) don’t realize the importance of having a full bucket throughout the day. In How Full Is Your Bucket? For Kids, Felix begins to see how every interaction in a day either fills or empties his bucket. Felix then realizes that everything he says or does to other people fills or empties their buckets as well. Follow along with Felix as he learns how easy it can be to fill the buckets of his classmates, teachers and family members. Before the day is over, you’ll see how Felix learns to be a great bucket filler, and in the process, discovers that filling someone else’s bucket also fills his own.

Ike's Bluff

Ike's Bluff PDF Author: Evan Thomas
Publisher: Little, Brown
ISBN: 0316217271
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 365

Book Description
Evan Thomas's startling account of how the underrated Dwight Eisenhower saved the world from nuclear holocaust. Upon assuming the presidency in 1953, Dwight Eisenhower set about to make good on his campaign promise to end the Korean War. Yet while Eisenhower was quickly viewed by many as a doddering lightweight, behind the bland smile and simple speech was a master tactician. To end the hostilities, Eisenhower would take a colossal risk by bluffing that he might use nuclear weapons against the Communist Chinese, while at the same time restraining his generals and advisors who favored the strikes. Ike's gamble was of such magnitude that there could be but two outcomes: thousands of lives saved, or millions of lives lost. A tense, vivid and revisionist account of a president who was then, and still is today, underestimated, Ike's Bluff is history at its most provocative and thrilling.

What's in the Well Comes Up in the Bucket

What's in the Well Comes Up in the Bucket PDF Author: Charles Locy
Publisher: Trinadigm
ISBN: 9781935586272
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
"What's in The Well Comes Up in The Bucket" is a book which deals with personal growth and development. The metaphor of The Well reflects what is deep inside all of us. It describes how our thoughts and emotions end up in our well. Much of those thoughts are our reaction to the thoughts and words of others. And we either reinforce those thoughts or cleanse them. The bucket represents what comes out of our well by the way we speak, act, and think. We are always in control, whether we realize it not. The story is also a personal and transformational journey: a journey of discovery and awareness that each us must undertake in order to answer our personal questions about our lives, our purpose, and our passion. The truth will not make you free. It is only when we know the truth, can we be free. And knowing the truth is vital. We are all creatures of habit. And once we realize these habits control our thoughts and actions the truth about ourselves will be revealed to us. Then we have a choice to make: to live by our truth or by our habits.

Sandcastles Made Simple

Sandcastles Made Simple PDF Author: Lucinda Wierenga
Publisher: ABRAMS
ISBN: 1683357264
Category : Crafts & Hobbies
Languages : en
Pages : 373

Book Description
A step-by-step guide to building elaborate and impressive sandcastles with a basic understanding of sand and a few simple tools. A crenellated turret here, a winding, arched staircase there, maybe even a giant turtle—fairy tale ideas are at the heart of every sandcastle. Summer after summer, children and adults alike make valiant efforts to infuse their sandy structures with such inspiration, but the results are generally disappointing. With Sandcastles Made Simple, Lucinda “sandy feet” Wierenga, a renowned sand sculptor, puts a permanent end to less-than-perfect beach creations. She provides the ultimate step-by-step guide to building impressive sandcastles, and shows that with a few simple tools and a basic understanding of sand, building dream castles can be easy. The book features instructions for each of the architectural elements—base, staircase, roof, balcony, and more—that can be combined to fashion one-of-a-kind castles. Also included are two projects designed specifically for younger children. Like a shovel and pail, Sandcastles Made Simple is an on-the-beach necessity.

Book Description
SONAR (sound navigation and ranging) systems have many similarities to RADAR and electro-optical systems. Again, detection is based on the propagation of waves between the target and detector. There are active sonar systems, where the wave propagates from the transmitter to the target and back to the receiver, analogous to pulse-echo radar. There are also passive sonar systems, where the target is the source of the energy which propagates to the receiver, analogous to passive infrared detection. Therefore, a great deal of what has been discussed about these systems will also apply to sonar. Sonar, however, differs fundamentally from radar and electro-optics because the energy is transferred by acoustics waves propagating in water. So we first begin by discussing the characteristics of acoustic waves.
