This book is a must read for every serious student of the Bible. The question of Israel and the Church in relation to Gods eternal purpose is one of the most important subjects defining the Mission of the Church and the many confusing and often misleading interpretations of Bible prophecy. A correct understanding of the roles played by each in the economy of God is vital to the furtherance of the mission and destiny of the Church in this present time as well as the eschatological implications involved. It is the authors intention to present his positions based on scripture rather than extensive reliance on other writer's positions requiring extensive foot notes. He has purposely included the text of many supporting scriptures in the context of the book to allow the reader to view them without turning to a footnote or index in the back of the book or turning to your Bible in order to read them. You are encouraged to read the supporting Bible verses in order to evaluate the veracity of the positions presented. Considerable emphasis is given to the contrasts between the Dispensational Futurist doctrine held by many evangelicals today and the more historic teachings of the reformers of the 15th and 16th century and many evangelicals in the church today. The author examines the presuppositions fundamental to dispensational futurism as presented by Charles Darby, Dr Schofield, Dr. Pentecost, J.B. Blackstone, Dr. Ryrie and others which hold to a total separation between Israel and the Church, contending that the church has no part in fulfilling any of the Old Testament promises made to Israel. The author presents irrefutable evidence as to the fallacious nature of these presuppositions upon which dispensational futurism stands by examining many Old Testament prophecies and promises fulfilled in the church, including the promised new covenant which Jesus, the testator, instituted at his death. The death of Christ is revealed as the ultimate and final sacrifice whereby God concluded His relationship with Israel under the Mosaic Covenant and began His relationship with a new holy nation encompassing both Jew and gentiles of faith. He broke down the middle wall of partition between the Jew and the gentile making them one Holy Nation, the church. The church is seen as heir to the promises made to Abraham and to Christ. The question of the Kingdom of God in the present age as apposed to a future millennial age is discussed at length because of its importance to the mission and destiny of the church in the eternal purposes of God and the role of individual believers in fulfilling their calling and purpose in possessing the kingdom of God. This book represents a logical and biblically based understanding of the Kingdom of God and the events surrounding the second coming of Jesus Christ. By defining from scripture the roles played by Israel and the Church in Bible prophecy, it brings into focus a clear understanding of the mission and destiny of the Church and each individuals role in fulfilling that mission. By untangling the confusion surrounding the subject of Bible prophecy and Gods purpose and destiny for His glorious Church, which He purposed in Christ, it unleashes the reader to come to a Biblical understanding of the following questions: 1. The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1973-1974, volume 1, contains messages given by Brother Witness Lee from February 20, 1973, through March 21, 1974. In 1973 and 1974 Brother Lee spoke seventy-one messages that were published in Life-study of Ephesians, Life-study of Genesis, Life-study of Matthew, and Life-study of Romans. These Life-study messages are not included in The Collected Works of Witness Lee. At the end of December 1972 and the beginning of January 1973, Brother Lee traveled to San Francisco, Berkeley, San Jose, and Santa Cruz, California, and then returned to Los Angeles. The messages that he gave in San Francisco are published at the end of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1972, volume 3. There is no record of his speaking in the other three cities. From January 22 through February 15 Brother Lee remained in Los Angeles. From February 16 through 19 Brother Lee visited Seattle and Spokane, Washington. There is no record of his speaking in those cities. From February 20 through March 28 Brother Lee ministered in Los Angeles. From March 30 through April 1 Brother Lee ministered in Houston, Texas, after which he spent the next month in Los Angeles. From May 4 through 24 he traveled to Taipei and Taichung, Taiwan, and to Manila, Philippines. The only record of his speaking during those dates was in a meeting with the serving ones of the church in Taipei on May 5. At the end of May Brother Lee visited Sacramento. There is no record of his speaking in that city. He returned to Los Angeles at the end of May and ministered there until the end of the third week in October. Then he traveled to Vancouver, Canada; San Francisco, California; and Spokane and Seattle, Washington, until the end of November, after which he returned to Los Angeles and remained there until the middle of December. From the third week in December through the first week in January 1974, Brother Lee visited Houston, Texas; Atlanta, Georgia; and New York City. He returned to Los Angeles and remained there through the third week in March. The contents of this volume are divided into thirteen sections, as follows: 1. Ten messages given in Los Angeles, California, from February 20 through March 21, 1973. They were previously published in a book entitled The History of the Church and the Local Churches. 2. Three messages given in Los Angeles, California, on March 27 and 28 and April 27, 1973. They are included in this volume under the title The Kernel of the New Testament--the Divine Spirit with Our Human Spirit. Chapter 1 was spoken immediately after the messages published in The History of the Church and the Local Churches. 3. Four messages given in Houston, Texas, from March 30 through April 1, 1973. In this issue of The Ministry we conclude our series of messages entitled “Vision in God’s Economy,” comprising Brother Lee’s fellowship with the elders and co-workers in Taipei in March 1986. The present vision and practice in the Lord’s recovery are the culmination of all the visions, which God has given to men in His holy Word. Our vision and practice today are according to God’s New Testament economy to build up the Body of Christ to consummate the New Jerusalem. This is the vision, which matches the age, and it is the basis of the one accord among us. Six other messages in this issue are taken from the International Conference of Co-workers and Elders in September 1997. The subject of this conference was “Vital Factors in the Lord’s Present Move.” These vital factors are related to the apostles’ teaching, the Body of Christ, and the elders’ shepherding of the church. Caring diligently for these factors ensures that in our living and laboring we are kept in the central lane of the divine revelation with one way for one goal—the goal of God’s eternal economy—which we carry out by shepherding in cooperation with Christ’s heavenly ministry. These messages were spoken by twelve brothers in a blending way, and they include excerpts from Brother Lee’s written ministry. In this issue we report on our endeavor to acquire an enlarged campus for the spread of the work of God’s New Testament ministry in the Lord’s recovery. We also provide fellowship concerning the Lord’s move on the earth through letters from Ghana, France, Poland, and Romania. DOES GOD STILL MOVE IN THE CHURCH TODAY? Jesus said "I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it! We see a confusing picture of church in the world today! And yet, as we see in this book, God's promises remain true. The beauty, and the victory, and the power of God's holy people that we find in the Scriptures through their faith in Jesus, the Christ, the Son of the living God and their obedience to his Word has been manifest down through the ages and is available to us today! God has always dealt with a remnant, a power plant within what the world may see as "Christianity". That power plant, in a very quiet way is what really moves things! The only thing that has kept the world from absolute corruption and consequent destruction until now is that Glorious Church that the world does not see nor comprehend. When it is taken out, the world will very quickly deteriorate and self-destruct. My examples of what God has done through the church are; the church during the Roman persecution, the church of the Reformation, the church that was instrumental in the disintegration of the Soviet Union, the church in Communist China that multiplied tenfold from the bottom up in the most severe persecution. The church in a prison and the church in a mine are two unusual examples. Our Lord had a great burden to convey to his contemporaries and to us the urgency of being ready for his coming. Especially in the last part of his ministry he used many everyday examples to teach and prepare us. A key verse showing what was on his heart is in Luke 21:36, "Watch you therefore and pray always that you be counted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass and to stand before the Son of Man." This book is written for those who truly want to be a part of that Glorious Church!
