Book Description
Biodesign in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Deep Green investigates the potential of nature-based technology for shaping the evolution of contemporary architecture and design. It takes on the now pervasive topic of design intelligence, extending its definition to encompass both biological and digital realms. As in their first title, Systemic Architecture: Operating Manual for the Self-Organizing City, the authors engage the topic through the specific lens of their innovative design practice, ecoLogicStudio, and their research at the University of Innsbruck and at the Bartlett, UCL. Part One of the book, entitled PhotoSyntheticaTM, illustrates design solutions that engage the urban microbiome and seek to achieve an immediate impact, while Part Two, entitled Deep Green, includes synthetic landscapes and operates within a much larger spatio-temporal frame, going beyond human perception and life span to envision design as a geographical and geological force. In the age of catastrophic climate change, such perceptual expansion helps to clarify that change cannot simply be stopped or rolled back. We must instead establish more positive dynamics of change within the living world. To this end, this book proposes to engage with design and architecture as an extended cognitive interface, a sentient being that is co-evolutionary and symbiotic with the living planet, contributing to its beauty and to our continued enjoyment of it.

Artificial Intelligence and Architecture

Artificial Intelligence and Architecture PDF Author: Stanislas Chaillou
Publisher: Birkhäuser
ISBN: 3035624046
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 208

Book Description

Artificial Intelligence in Design ’96

Artificial Intelligence in Design ’96 PDF Author: John S. Gero
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9400902794
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 765

Book Description
Change is one of the most significant parameters in our society. Designers are amongst the primary change agents for any society. As a consequence design is an important research topic in engineering and architecture and related disciplines, since design is not only a means of change but is also one of the keystones to economic competitiveness and the fundamental precursor to manufacturing. The development of computational models founded on the artificial intelligence paradigm has provided an impetus for much of current design research -both computational and cognitive. These forms of design research have only been carried out in the last decade or so and in the temporal sense they are still immature. Notwithstanding this immaturity, noticeable advances have been made both in extending our understanding of design and in developing tools based on that understanding. Whilst many researchers in the field of artificial intelligence in design utilise ideas about how humans design as one source of concepts there is normally no attempt to model human designers. Rather the results of the research presented in this volume demonstrate approaches to increasing our understanding of design as a process.

Homo Ex Data: Design Age Big Data

Homo Ex Data: Design Age Big Data PDF Author: Burkhard Jacob

Book Description
- The symposium Homo ex Data - Design in the Age of Big Data and this publication mark the launch of the Red Dot Network pilot project on topical issues such as Big Data, the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality from a design perspective The development of social media, online services, smartphones and devices, autonomous vehicles and robots has meant that both software and hardware, programs and products, as well as computers and machines are increasingly participating in human communication. A new artificial intelligence is evolving that no longer tries to copy natural human intelligence, but incessantly collects data we make available to it by using the Internet and owning smart and mobile appliances. With the help of algorithms, behavior patterns are identified, and predictions made whose significance increase with the amount of data we supply. The articles in this book, which have been written for the symposium Homo ex Data - Design in the Age of Big Data, also show that we have more decisions to make about the subject of artificial intelligence than just those about 0 and 1. Designers whose views are expressed in this anthology and who are closely involved with the design of digital media and products will have to make further decisions if they wish to shape human activity, behavior and experience. This realization is reflected in the breadth and scope of the various contributions.
