Book Description
Excerpt from The Production of the Printed Catalogue: The Preparation, Printing, and Publication of Catalogues of Libraries, Museums, Art Galleries, Publishers, Booksellers and Business Houses, With a Chapter on the Monotype Machine, and an Appendix of Type Faces So far as I have been able to discover, no bool exists upon the subject of the production of catalogues, although all business houses of any size issue catalogues from time to time. Publishers and booksellers live by their catalogues. And libraries of all kinds, museums, and art galleries depend very largely upon catalogues for their popularity and success. Under these circumstances it is unnecessary to apologize for the publication of this handbook to a subject of such general importance. Printing is one of those arts of which every one thinks he knows something. But this 'something' is so little that the knowledge becomes dangerous, and the want of just a little more knowledge sometimes results in an increase in the cost of the catalogue, and a regrettable friction between the customer and the printer. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work. Forgotten Books uses state-of-the-art technology to digitally reconstruct the work, preserving the original format whilst repairing imperfections present in the aged copy. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in our edition. We do, however, repair the vast majority of imperfections successfully; any imperfections that remain are intentionally left to preserve the state of such historical works.
