Collaborative Engineering and the Internet

Collaborative Engineering and the Internet PDF Author: Anthony Mills
Publisher: Society of Manufacturing Engineers
ISBN: 0872634981
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 402

Book Description
Via the Web. In manufacturing, new communication technologies have ushered in a new era for the team-based product development strategy of concurrent engineering. Known as collaborative engineering, the new phase makes it unnecessary for team members to be in the same room. seated around the same table. The team members can be scattered around the facility, around the city, around the country, and even around the world, and can still contribute their valuable input. More complex than traditional concurrent engineering, collaborative engineering not only deals with collaboration itself, but also the infrastructure and environments that enable and nurture it. Going far beyond describing the use of the internet, Anthony Mills thoroughly examines the principles, applications and various tools relevant to this new age of industrial communications. He explains how an organization can use them effectively in welding together personnel and suppliers - no matter how far flung - so that they can play major roles in the organization's success.

Model-Based Engineering of Collaborative Embedded Systems

Model-Based Engineering of Collaborative Embedded Systems PDF Author: Wolfgang Böhm
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030621367
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 404

Book Description
This Open Access book presents the results of the "Collaborative Embedded Systems" (CrESt) project, aimed at adapting and complementing the methodology underlying modeling techniques developed to cope with the challenges of the dynamic structures of collaborative embedded systems (CESs) based on the SPES development methodology. In order to manage the high complexity of the individual systems and the dynamically formed interaction structures at runtime, advanced and powerful development methods are required that extend the current state of the art in the development of embedded systems and cyber-physical systems. The methodological contributions of the project support the effective and efficient development of CESs in dynamic and uncertain contexts, with special emphasis on the reliability and variability of individual systems and the creation of networks of such systems at runtime. The project was funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), and the case studies are therefore selected from areas that are highly relevant for Germany’s economy (automotive, industrial production, power generation, and robotics). It also supports the digitalization of complex and transformable industrial plants in the context of the German government's "Industry 4.0" initiative, and the project results provide a solid foundation for implementing the German government's high-tech strategy "Innovations for Germany" in the coming years.

Virtual Enterprises and Collaborative Networks

Virtual Enterprises and Collaborative Networks PDF Author: Luis M. Camarinha-Matos
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 1402081391
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 610

Book Description
Collaborative Network Organizations (CNO) corresponds to a very active and steadily growing area. For instance, Virtual enterprises/Virtual Organizations (PVC) suggest new ways of work and put the emphasis on collaborative networks of human actors. Further to these main lines, other collaborative forms and patterns of collaborative behavior are emerging, not only in industry, but also in service sector, as well as governmental and non-government social organizations, e.g. the collaborative networks for rescue tasks in disaster situations, time bank organizations, etc. The concept of breeding environment is now understood as a fundamental entity to enable dynamic collaborative organizations.

Site Reliability Engineering

Site Reliability Engineering PDF Author: Niall Richard Murphy
Publisher: "O'Reilly Media, Inc."
ISBN: 1491951176
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 552

Book Description
The overwhelming majority of a software system’s lifespan is spent in use, not in design or implementation. So, why does conventional wisdom insist that software engineers focus primarily on the design and development of large-scale computing systems? In this collection of essays and articles, key members of Google’s Site Reliability Team explain how and why their commitment to the entire lifecycle has enabled the company to successfully build, deploy, monitor, and maintain some of the largest software systems in the world. You’ll learn the principles and practices that enable Google engineers to make systems more scalable, reliable, and efficient—lessons directly applicable to your organization. This book is divided into four sections: Introduction—Learn what site reliability engineering is and why it differs from conventional IT industry practices Principles—Examine the patterns, behaviors, and areas of concern that influence the work of a site reliability engineer (SRE) Practices—Understand the theory and practice of an SRE’s day-to-day work: building and operating large distributed computing systems Management—Explore Google's best practices for training, communication, and meetings that your organization can use

Collaborative Language Engineering

Collaborative Language Engineering PDF Author: Stephan Oepen
Publisher: Stanford Univ Center for the Study
ISBN: 9781575862903
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 240

Book Description
During the 1990s, work in language engineering saw a dramatic increase in the power and sophistication of statistical approaches to natural languge processing (NLP), along with a growth in the recognition that these methods alone cannot meet the full range of demands for applications of NLP. While statistical methods can bring real advatages in robustness and efficiency, they do not provide the precise, reliable representations of meaning which more conventional symbolic grammars can supply for natural language. A consistent, fine-grained mapping between form and meaning is of critical importance in some NLP applications. This volume provides an update on the development and application of broad-coverage declarative grammars built on sound linguistic foundations and presents several aspects of international research efforts to produce comprehensive, re-usable grammars and efficient technology for parsing and generating with such grammars.
