Quantitative Coronary Arteriography

Quantitative Coronary Arteriography PDF Author: Johan H. C. Reiber
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9401137269
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 388

Book Description
In June 1989, a third conference concentrating on the progress in quantita tive coronary angiography and related techniques was held in Rotterdam, again very successful as the two preceding events in 1985 and 1987. Tech nical as well as clinical aspects of digital and digitized coronarography, morphometry, parametric imaging and functional quantification of the human coronary circulation were presented and discussed by prominent exponents of those groups who have been active in this particular field for many years. This book contains the chapters representing the lectures held by leading experts during the symposium that update the knowledge currently available, including most recent aspects in angioscopy and intravascular ultrasound imaging. It also includes a historical review on the development of angiogra phic techniques from the very early days on to our times given by one of the pioneers in heart catheterization and angiography, Dr. Kurt Amplatz. Those who had the chance to listen to his talk, will surely remember his impressive, humorous lecture as one of the highlights of this meeting.

Tissue Characterization in MR Imaging

Tissue Characterization in MR Imaging PDF Author: H. Peter Higer
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642749933

Pages : 340

Book Description
H.P. HIGER 1 In the seventeenth century people dreamed about a machine to get rid of evil spirits and obsessions, which were thought to be the main source of mis fortune and disease. I am not going to question this approach, because in a way it sounds reasonable. They dreamed of a machine that would display im ages from the inner world of men which could be easily identified and named. Somehow these are the roots of MR imaging. Of course, we now view disease from a different point of view but our objectives remain the same, namely to make diseases visible and to try to characterize them in order to cure them. This was the reason for setting up a symposium on tissue characterization. About 300 years later the clinical introduction of MRI has great potential for making this dream come true, and I hope that this symposium has con stituted another step toward its realization. When Damadian published his article in 1971 about differences in T1 relaxation times between healthy and pathological tissues, this was a milestone in tissue characterization. His results initiated intensive research in to MR imaging and tissue parameters. Actually his encouraging discovery was not only the first but also the last for a long time in the field of MR tissue characterization.

Complications in PTCA

Complications in PTCA PDF Author: E. Fleck
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642853943
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 158

Book Description
Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty is presently the widest used non-surgi cal method for the treatment of stenotic lesions in coronary artery disease. Continuous development of the procedure and equipment has made complex and multi-vessel-inter ventions possible and has led to other techniques of intravascular angioplasty. In reviewing current results, this volume pays particular attention to causes, incidence, circumstances, recognition, treatment and outcome of complications of PTCA; it also considers restenosis, which still occurs at an unsatisfactory high rate after primarily successful procedures. To deal with these topics, experts on PTCA met to discuss their experiences and insights into peculiar aspects of complications in PTCA. The discussion was subdivided into: Recognition of complications; Complications in new interventional techniques; Management of complications; and Restenosis after angioplasty. The question of whether angiographic and pathological characteristics of sclerotic lesions allow the identification of complication-prone lesions in advance is discussed in the first chapter. One paper deals with the state of the art of digital cardiac imaging, which enables the operator to have an early knowledge of and adequate reaction to possible complications occurring during angioplasty. Special attention is directed to the so-called "high-risk"-PTCA, detailing the clinical variables, in order to have better knowledge about patients with a higher probability of unsuccessful or complicated procedures.

3-D Modeling Technology in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

3-D Modeling Technology in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery PDF Author: Jörg Thomas Lambrecht
Publisher: Quintessence Publishing (IL)
ISBN:
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 156

Book Description
Three-dimensional models of bony structures can now be made available for the planning and performance of oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures on the facial skeleton. Models permit a measurement of structures, the testing of osteotomic and resection techniques, and complete planning for almost all types of oral and maxillofacial surgery. In addition to applications in preprosthetic and tumor surgery, three-dimensional modeling can assist in surgical correction of malocclusion and congenital deformities. In traumatology, however, its applications in primary care are limited due to time constraints. The future potential of modeling justifies continued expense of labor and cost, and the manufacture of models for three-dimensional surgical planning will shorten the time required for surgical procedures in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Integrated Diagnostic Imaging

Integrated Diagnostic Imaging PDF Author: Johannes Petrus Joseph de Valk
Publisher: Elsevier Publishing Company
ISBN:
Category : Diagnostic imaging
Languages : en
Pages : 416

Book Description
Much work, although often fragmentary, has been published by professionals on PACS (picture archiving and communication systems) related issues. This book, however, is unique in its field, providing medical professionals in particular with a state-of-the-art overview of this system. Covering the USA, Western Europe and Japan, it gives an outline of the history, status and future of (digital) medical image handling in the hospital environment during the final two decades of this century (as perceived and experienced by professionals working in this particular field of medicine). It comprises case studies from around the world and, with most of these studies belonging to highly specialized subtopics of the medical imaging area, they provide a good insight into the complexity and problems of the total field. Hence this volume will be invaluable to those in the medical profession, and specifically those with a clear technical interest in medical imaging for daily use in a hospital environment.
