Book Description
The concept of domestic violence refers to acts of violence and abuse of one family member over another. Family violence is an issue of major concern for psychologists and families, community and social decision-makers. It is a dramatic phenomenon, which generates pain, trauma, physical and psychological scars. This book provides an overview of the prevalence, risk factors and several perspectives of domestic violence. Chapter One is about attachment as a vulnerability factor of victimisation in the context of intimate partner violence. Chapter Two analyzes animal cruelty and intimate partner violence. Chapter Three focuses on violence against women and child maltreatment. Chapter Four emphasizes the victimization experience (direct and indirect) of children in the family context. Chapter Five presents data of the Childrens Exposure to Domestic Violence Scale (CEDVS) applied in Brazil. Chapter Six discusses the phenomenon of domestic violence between same-sex intimate partners. Chapter Seven studies domestic violence arising from a concept of honor and referred to as honor based violence. Chapter Eight presents current literature on the effectiveness of domestic violence interventions targeting adult perpetrators and adult and child victims. Chapter Nine provides the latest results of the research on facilitating successful treatment processes in perpetrator programs. Chapter Ten examines the Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Act 2010 in Bangladesh. Family Violence:

Family Violence: PDF Author: Nicolette Vanessa Roman

Book Description
"Violence threatens the sense of cohesion in any environment but especially within the family. It is within the family that the first relationships of trust should develop. It is within the family that we are cared for, provided for and where we find our strength and comfort. When the family purports violence, everything shifts because the family environment becomes one of hostility, a threat of harm or death to the mind and body and general well-being, creating distrust, feelings of fear and overall disequilibrium within the family. This book, Family Violence: Prevalence, Risk Factors and Perspectives, uses a family-centered approach to explore the evidence regarding violence in the family because when there is any type of violence, be it child abuse, intimate partner violence, sibling abuse, child-on-parent abuse or elder abuse, everyone in the family is affected and all family members should be included in the intervention. This book includes perspectives of family violence in different contexts and explores family violence risks"--

Intimate Partner Violence

Intimate Partner Violence PDF Author: Elizabeth A. Bates
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1351690140
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 182

Book Description
Since the 1970s the issue of intimate partner violence (IPV) has been explained through the patriarchal desire of men to control and dominate women, but this gendered perspective limits both our understanding of IPV and its treatment. Intimate Partner Violence: New Perspectives in Research and Practice is the first book of its kind to present a detailed and rigorous critique of current domestic violence research and practice within the same volume. In this challenging new text, with contributions from the UK, the US, and Canada, the subject is assessed from a more holistic position. It provides a critical analysis of the issue of domestic violence including issues that are often not part of the mainstream discussion. Each of the chapters tackles a different area of research or practice, from a critical review of contemporary topics in domestic violence research, including a critical review of men’s use of violence in relationships, a consideration of male victims, IPV within the LGBTQ+ community, perceptions of perpetrators and victims, and IPV within adolescent populations. The second half of the book examines challenges and opportunities for professionals working in the field and includes an analysis of an evidence informed perpetrator programme, the challenges faced working with male victims, and a discussion of the impact of domestic violence on children. Culminating with a series of evidence-based recommendations to bridge the divide between academic and practitioner stakeholders and to inform future working practices, this is an essential resource for students and practitioners alike.

Intimate Partner Violence Prevention and Intervention

Intimate Partner Violence Prevention and Intervention PDF Author: Anna C. Baldry
Publisher: Nova Publishers
ISBN: 9781600218583
Category : Family & Relationships
Languages : en
Pages : 226

Book Description
This book focuses on the importance of assessing risk in domestic violence cases to prevent and reduce its escalation into homicide (so called uxoricide). Spousal killers in a substantial number of cases exhibit a history of prior spousal violence: in addition to this, witnessing violence has debilitating effects on children. For this reason domestic violence is also becoming a hot political issue on the European agenda. Integrating the US and Canadian experiences with the European ones increases the book's value and broadens perspectives. Assessing the risk and adopting appropriate measures can help reduce the risk of escalation of violence. It aims at gathering contributions from experts in the field of domestic violence and victimisation to present state of the art research in the risk assessment of domestic violence cases.
