One object I had in writing this volume was to draw the attention of this class to the fact that our Lord clearly advanced such views, when he defined man in his natural state as a unit of Body and Mind - graphicly classed by Him as "that which is born of the Flesh is Flesh," - put in contrast with the new sentiment conversion imparts, defined as one "born of the Spirit, Spirit." - John iii. 6. He was instructing Nicodemus on this vital principle of Christianity, who recognised Jesus as a teacher come from God, and came to be taught by Him. Nicodemus, like many in our day, who are startled by materialism, was greatly amazed when informed of the necessity of being "born again" before he could see the kingdom of heaven.
