Physics of Flow in Porous Media

Physics of Flow in Porous Media PDF Author: Jens Feder
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 1108996361
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 361

Book Description
An invaluable reference for graduate students and academic researchers, this book introduces the basic terminology, methods and theory of the physics of flow in porous media. Geometric concepts, such as percolation and fractals, are explained and simple simulations are created, providing readers with both the knowledge and the analytical tools to deal with real experiments. It covers the basic hydrodynamics of porous media and how complexity emerges from it, as well as establishing key connections between hydrodynamics and statistical physics. Covering current concepts and their uses, this book is of interest to applied physicists and computational/theoretical Earth scientists and engineers seeking a rigorous theoretical treatment of this topic. Physics of Flow in Porous Media fills a gap in the literature by providing a physics-based approach to a field that is mostly dominated by engineering approaches.

Hydrogeology and Simulation of Groundwater Flow in Cedar Valley, Utah County, Utah

Hydrogeology and Simulation of Groundwater Flow in Cedar Valley, Utah County, Utah PDF Author: Juliette Lucy Jordan
Publisher: Utah Geological Survey
ISBN: 1557918686
Category : Aquifers
Languages : en
Pages : 231

Book Description
This CD contains a 125-page comprehensive study of the hydrogeology of Cedar Valley, Utah County, located in north-central Utah. The report includes 72 figures; two plates, one of which is a potentiometric map of the basin-fill, bedrock, and several perched aquifers; and seven appendices of data. Field investigations included groundwater chemistry sampling, regular water-level monitoring, and multiple-well aquifer testing. The field data were incorporated into a 3D digital groundwater flow model using MODFLOW2000. Seventy percent of the recharge to the Cedar Valley aquifer system is from precipitation in the Oquirrh Mountains. Groundwater generally flows from west to east and exits the aquifer system mostly as interbasin flow through bedrock to the northeast and southeast. The groundwater model showed a 39-year (1969-2007) average recharge to the Cedar Valley groundwater system of 25,600 acre-feet per year and discharge of 25,200 acre-feet per year. A significant volume of precipitation recharge (perhaps 4300 acre-feet per year) does not interact with the basin-fill aquifer but travels within bedrock to discharge to adjacent valleys or as bedrock well discharge. 125 pages + 2 plates

Upscaling Multiphase Flow in Porous Media

Upscaling Multiphase Flow in Porous Media PDF Author: D.B. Das
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1402036043
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 259

Book Description
This book provides concise, up-to-date and easy-to-follow information on certain aspects of an ever important research area: multiphase flow in porous media. This flow type is of great significance in many petroleum and environmental engineering problems, such as in secondary and tertiary oil recovery, subsurface remediation and CO2 sequestration. This book contains a collection of selected papers (all refereed) from a number of well-known experts on multiphase flow. The papers describe both recent and state-of-the-art modeling and experimental techniques for study of multiphase flow phenomena in porous media. Specifically, the book analyses three advanced topics: upscaling, pore-scale modeling, and dynamic effects in multiphase flow in porous media. This will be an invaluable reference for the development of new theories and computer-based modeling techniques for solving realistic multiphase flow problems. Part of this book has already been published in a journal. Audience This book will be of interest to academics, researchers and consultants working in the area of flow in porous media.
