From The Pastor's Pen (Letters on Living Christ and Being Christ's Body)

From The Pastor's Pen (Letters on Living Christ and Being Christ's Body) PDF Author: Pastor Bert Baker
Publisher: Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.
ISBN: 1681974517
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 431

Book Description
How do you get new Christians who do not know one another to work at building and growing relationships in a new Church? This is essential in a new Church because the teaching and training of the core group of believers becomes the nucleus of the Body of Christ. This is the obstacle Pastor Baker faced in planting a church in Newark, NJ. Although the people came from the same urban neighborhood, it did not appear these new believers had much in common. So Pastor Baker decided to write a monthly Bible-based letter on living for Christ and how to be the Church and do its work. He planned to write From the Pastor's Pen for a year or so to teach biblical truth and to develop bridges to build lasting Christian relationships. But this short-term project grew as new believers added addresses to the mailing list. Soon twenty families were fifty and then over one hundred. Believers made copies and passed them out at work. These monthly letters became the teaching materials for small-group Bible studies, and were used by missionaries in the Dutch West Indies. So from November of 1984 until June of 2014, a monthly letter was written. Pastor Baker's short-term project became a long-term ministry. With the help of brothers and sisters in the Newark Church, the letters in this book were selected so you can live Christ and be Christ's Body. May you grow in Christ and effectively be and do the work of the Church.

Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled (Foreword by Elizabeth Catherwood and Ann Beatt)

Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled (Foreword by Elizabeth Catherwood and Ann Beatt) PDF Author: Martyn Lloyd-Jones
Publisher: Crossway
ISBN: 1433520869
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 141

Book Description
In 1951, with the Second World War not long over and the menace of the Cold War generating anxiety in the West, Martyn Lloyd-Jones preached eight sermons on John 14:1-12 at Westminster Chapel in London. These sermons, presented in Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled, were intended to comfort, strengthen, and build up Christians in their "most holy faith" and to bring unbelievers to a knowledge of the only way men and women can face matters of life and death. Lloyd-Jones went through these verses carefully, showing that the way to deal with our fears is first to recognize and confront them and then to realize that the answer is only to be found in the great and unchanging truths of the gospel. Pastors, Lloyd-Jones readers, and anyone needing encouragement will benefit from this work by one of the twentieth century's foremost preachers.

God's Glory in Salvation through Judgment

God's Glory in Salvation through Judgment PDF Author: James M. Hamilton Jr.
Publisher: Crossway
ISBN: 1433521350
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 642

Book Description
In Exodus 34 Moses asks to see God’s glory, and God reveals himself as a God who is merciful and just. James Hamilton Jr. contends that from this passage comes a biblical theology that unites the meta-narrative of Scripture under one central theme: God’s glory in salvation through judgment. Hamilton begins in the Old Testament by showing that Israel was saved through God’s judgment on the Egyptians and the Caananites. God was glorified through both his judgment and mercy, accorded in salvation to Israel. The New Testament unfolds the ultimate display of God’s glory in justice and mercy, as it was God’s righteous judgment shown on the cross that brought us salvation. God’s glory in salvation through judgment will be shown at the end of time, when Christ returns to judge his enemies and save all who have called on his name. Hamilton moves through the Bible book by book, showing that there is one theological center to the whole Bible. The volume’s systematic method and scope make it a unique resource for pastors, professors, and students.

What Is Biblical Theology?

What Is Biblical Theology? PDF Author: James M. Hamilton Jr.
Publisher: Crossway
ISBN: 1433537745
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 130

Book Description
Is the Bible just a random collection of old stories, or is there something more going on within the pages of Scripture? Is it possible that the ancient books of the Old and New Testaments are part of a single, unified story, begun long ago but extending into our world today? In this introduction to biblical theology, professor James Hamilton orients Bible readers afresh to the overarching story line of Scripture, helping Christians read and interpret the Bible as the biblical writers intended and as the early Christians read it. Examining Scripture’s key symbols, patterns, and themes, Hamilton helps readers truly grasp—and be transformed by—the theology of redemption contained in God’s Word.

Pages : 280

Book Description
Inside the disciplined mind of John Stott Like many preachers, the great British evangelical leader John Stott was always looking for illustrations to include in his sermons and writings. Beginning in the 1940s and continuing until the early 2000s, when he came across something he thought he could use, he captured it on a note card, labeled it according to topic, and filed it away in his study. Editor Mark Meynell, who worked at All Souls Langham Place with Stott, has selected the best of these illustrations to be included in Pages from a Preacher's Notebook. Here we see Stott's fruitful and disciplined mind on display in hundreds of preaching notes and prayers on various subjects, all arranged topically. Whether you are a preacher or writer looking for a good idea, or an admirer of Stott who enjoys reading anything he writes, Pages from a Preacher's Notebook illuminates his careful working methods for the benefit of readers today.
