Pages : 128

Book Description
Everyone wants to be significant. To a certain extent, this is natural and good—evidence of our God-given desire for meaning and purpose. However, our longing for significance can easily twist into an insatiable craving for approval, recognition, and praise—and, if left unchecked, this craving will enslave us. In Glory Hunger, pastor JR Vassar challenges Christians to reevaluate their priorities when it comes to leaving a legacy, pointing to the gospel as the key to freedom from the bondage of narcissism and insecurity. Addressing cultural obsessions such as physical beauty and the goal of cultivating a “perfect” digital reputation via social media, this book will help readers refocus on what really matters: living a life marked by the passionate pursuit of God’s glory above all else.

Farming That Brings Glory to God and Hope to the Hungry

Farming That Brings Glory to God and Hope to the Hungry PDF Author: Craig Sorley
Publisher:
ISBN: 9780983865308
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 108

Book Description
With chronic hunger affecting millions, the world today needs to completely rethink its relationship to both agriculture and the environment. In honor to our Lord we as Christians should be leading by example in responding appropriately to a creation that groans and to a world where growing numbers of people struggle to find enough food. The purpose of this book is to put God back into the center of agriculture. He is the First Gardener, the First Farmer, the First Forester. When we build agricultural systems modeled after the beauty and diversity we see in the Garden of Eden, we glorify God, we brighten our testimony for Christ, and we move substantially in a direction that brings blessing to our brothers and sisters who are chronically hungry. Where our agricultural landscapes have been degraded and rendered less productive, we as Christians must work to restore and rebuild the strength and fruitfulness of those landscapes. Where our farming systems have damaged or continue to damage other parts of cration, we must lead the way in eliminating or minimizing that damage. Our gardens and farms should bear tangible witness to the fact that we serve the God of all creation, and that we hold tightly to standards and principles that reflect a Biblical view of agriculture.

Periagoge - Theory of Singularity and Philosophy as an Exercise of Transformation

Periagoge - Theory of Singularity and Philosophy as an Exercise of Transformation PDF Author: Guido Cusinato
Publisher: BRILL
ISBN: 9004520201
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 381

Book Description
This book returns to the question at the center of our existence, a question that the narcissistic culture in which we are immersed systematically tends to remove: “Why?” The underlying thesis is that the answer must not be sought in success or social recognition, but in a “fragment of truth”, hidden somewhere inside each of us, which reveals itself only if we detach ourselves from our ego and its certainties. It is not, therefore, a matter of finding yet another philosophical theory of the meaning of existence, but rather of shedding light on the conditions under which such meaning can emerge. The author shows us that the ultimate source of our existential orientation lies in the affective sphere, and that the current crisis of orientation is derived from the atrophy of the process of affective maturation on a large scale, and from a lack of knowledge and experience about which techniques are best to reactivate it. We are like glowworms that had once unlearned how to illuminate and have since begun to hover around the magic lantern of the ascetic ideal, already criticized by Nietzsche, and then around neon advertising signs. We are glowworms that have forgotten that we have within our own affective structure a precious source of orientation. The basic thesis is that this source of orientation can be reactivated through the care of desire and practices of emotional sharing.
