Parasitology and Microbiology Research

Parasitology and Microbiology Research PDF Author: Gilberto Antonio Bastidas Pacheco
Publisher: BoD – Books on Demand
ISBN: 1789859018
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 376

Book Description
The study of both unicellular and multicellular living beings and the diseases they produce from a biological point of view requires constant review of their relationship with their host and environment, given their indisputable sanitary importance. In this sense, in parasitology and microbiology, updated and concise information on life cycle, taxonomic classification, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment, epidemiological behavior, and control measures is of vital importance. This is what we pursue with this book. The approach to parasitology and microbiology and the research that is carried out on it is unquestionable because the associations between life forms have been present from the very beginning of life.Research in parasitology and microbiology is necessary and indispensable for controlling diseases that affect much of the world with serious economic and social consequences. The challenge is to promote research to keep these diseases at bay. This book shows what has been done up to now and what can be done in the future to combat infectious diseases.

Book Description
The study of parasites, their hosts and the dynamics between them is under the scope of parasitology. It integrates the techniques of cell biology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, immunology, biochemistry and genetics. Some of the sub-fields of parasitology are medical parasitology, veterinary parasitology, structural parasitology and quantitative parasitology. Study in parasitology also encompasses the study of taxonomy, phylogenetics, conservation biology and ecology of parasites. This book discusses the fundamentals as well as modern approaches of parasitology. From theories to research to practical applications, case studies related to all contemporary topics of relevance to this field have been included herein. This book, with its detailed analysis and data, will prove immensely beneficial to professionals and students involved in this area at various levels.

Immunobiology of Parasites and Parasitic Infections

Immunobiology of Parasites and Parasitic Infections PDF Author: John Marchalonis
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1468445715
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 512

Book Description
The phenomena involved in infections of man and domestic animals with metazoan or protozoan parasites present formidable practical problems as well as a theoretical challenge to immunologists, molecular biologists, and evolu tionary biologists. With respect to the public health and economic problems, malaria, for example, remains a major health problem with approximately 200 million people being infected yearly and, on the basis of World Health Organiza tion estimates, more than 1 million children die each year of malaria infections (Chapter 4). This volume addresses state-of-the-art immunologic approaches to the development of vaccines for parasitic diseases (Chapter 9) and analyses of studies bearing on the antigenic characterization of protozoan and metazoan parasites (Chapters 4, 5, and 7), on investigations of the role of precise mecha nisms underlying natural resistance or non permissiveness of the host to parasitic infections (Chapters 1, 2, and 12), on induced mechanisms including the genera tion of parasite-specific T-cell lines and clones (Chapter 6), and on the generation of monoclonal antibodies (Chapters 4 and 5) to parasite antigens of distinct de velopmental stages. Great progress has been made in characterizing parasite antigens capable of inducing a protective response in the vaccinated host; further progress in this area strongly depends on biochemistry and molecular biology with the long-term goal of synthesizing such antigens chemically or producing them by means of recombinant DNA technology (Chapter 4).

Opportunistic Infections

Opportunistic Infections PDF Author: David S. Lindsay
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1402078463
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 249

Book Description
Opportunistic Infections: Toxoplasma, Sarcocystis, and Microsporidia will focus on two important Genera of Apicomplexan parasites, Toxoplasma gondii and Sarcocystis species, and the medically important members of the Phylum Microsporida. We have been fortunate in obtaining excellent contributions from many experts in the field. Volumes in the "World Class Parasites" book series are written for researchers, students and scholars who enjoy reading about excellent research on problems of global significance. Each volume focuses on a parasite, or group of parasites, that has a major impact on human health, or agricultural productivity, and against which we have no satisfactory defense. The volumes are intended to supplement more formal texts that cover taxonomy, life cycles, morphology, vector distribution, symptoms and treatment. They integrate vector, pathogen and host biology and celebrate the diversity of approach that comprises modern parasitological research.
