QoS Measurement and Evaluation of Telecommunications Quality of Service PDF Author: William C. Hardy
Publisher: Wiley
ISBN: 9780471499572
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 248

Book Description
Quality of Service (QoS) is continuously growing in importance in the telecommunications industry because competition is growing fiercer by the day. By drawing on 30 years of experience, William C. Hardy explains how to examine specific tools and techniques that he has developed for the measurement and evaluation of QoS and understand the underlying analysis perspectives and methodologies. Details the basic concepts of QoS, together with the methodologies for organizing, structuring, and carrying out analyses of QoS from scratch. Describes the atttributes of the telecommunications service that determine user perception of quality in non-technical terms. Discusses specific measures, measurement techniques and evaluation criteria for all of the factors that affect user perception of QoS. Addresses user concerns including: * Will I be able to get to the service when I want to use it? * How long does it take before I know a connection is being set up? * How good will voice sound over a connection? * Includes valuable tips for QoS analysis and the perspectives vital for describing QoS in ways that are useful and operationally meaningful. Whether you have a limited technical background or are a telecommunications professional this simple and straightforward approach will be an essential tool to understanding QoS.

Assessment and Prediction of Speech Quality in Telecommunications

Assessment and Prediction of Speech Quality in Telecommunications PDF Author: Sebastian Möller
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1475731175
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 253

Book Description
The quality of a telecommunication voice service is largely inftuenced by the quality of the transmission system. Nevertheless, the analysis, synthesis and prediction of quality should take into account its multidimensional aspects. Quality can be regarded as a point where the perceived characteristics and the desired or expected ones meet. A schematic is presented which classifies different entities which contribute to the quality of a service, taking into account conversational, user as weIl as service related contributions. Starting from this concept, perceptively relevant constituents of speech communication quality are identified. The perceptive factors result from ele ments of the transmission configuration. A simulation model is developed and implemented which allows the most relevant parameters of traditional trans mission configurations to be manipulated, in real time and for the conversation situation. Inputs into the simulation are instrumentally measurable quality elements commonly used in transmission planning of telephone networks. A reduced set of these quality elements forms a basis for models which aim at predicting mouth-to-ear quality as it would be perceived by a user of the sys tem. These models are an important tool for the planner of telecommunication networks, as they allow the expected quality to be estimated in advance, even before the network has been set up. Two well-known models (the SUBMOD and the E-model) are analyzed in more detail, with an emphasis on the psy choacoustic and psychophysical backgrounds.

Fundamentals of Telecommunications

Fundamentals of Telecommunications PDF Author: Roger L. Freeman
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 0471720933
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 704

Book Description
The Second Edition of this critically-acclaimed text continues the standard of excellence set in the first edition by providing a thorough introduction to the fundamentals of telecommunication networks without bogging you down in complex technical jargon or math. Although focusing on the basics, the book has been thoroughly updated with the latest advances in the field, including a new chapter on metropolitan area networks (MANs) and new sections on Mobile Fi, ZigBee and ultrawideband. You’ll learn which choices are now available to an organization, how to evaluate them and how to develop strategies that achieve the best balance among cost, security and performance factors for voice, data, and image communication.

Future Intent-Based Networking

Future Intent-Based Networking PDF Author: Mikhailo Klymash
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9783030924348
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
So-called Intent-Based Networking (IBN) is founded on well-known SDN (Software-Defined Networking) and represents one of the most important emerging network infrastructure opportunities. The IBN is the beginning of a new era in the history of networking, where the network itself translates business intentions into appropriate network configurations for all devices. This minimizes manual effort, provides an additional layer of network monitoring, and provides the ability to perform network analytics and take full advantage of machine learning. The centralized, software-defined solution provides process automation and proactive problem solving as well as centralized management of the network infrastructure. With software-based network management, many operations can be performed automatically using intelligent control algorithms (artificial intelligence and machine learning). As a result, network operation costs, application response times and energy consumption are reduced, network reliability and performance are improved, network security and flexibility are enhanced. This will be a benefit for existing networks as well as evolved LTE-based mobile networks, emerging Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud systems, and soon for the future 5G/6G networks. The future networks will reach a whole new level of self-awareness, self-configuration, self-optimization, self-recovery and self-protection. This volume consists of 28 chapters, based on recent research on IBN.The volume is a collection of the most important research for the future intent-based networking deployment provided by different groups of researchers from Ukraine, Germany, Slovak Republic, Switzerland, South Korea, China, Czech Republic, Poland, Brazil, Belarus and Israel. The authors of the chapters from this collection present in depth extended research results in their scientific fields. The presented contents are highly interesting while still being rather practically oriented and straightforward to understand. Herewith we would like to wish all our readers a lot of inspiration by studying of the volume!

QoS Over Heterogeneous Networks

QoS Over Heterogeneous Networks PDF Author: Mario Marchese
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 0470058781
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 328

Book Description
The importance of quality of service (QoS) has risen with the recent evolution of telecommunication networks, which are characterised by a great heterogeneity. While many applications require a specific level of assurance from the network; communication networks are characterized by different service providers, transmission means and implementer solutions such as asynchronous transfer mode (ATM), Internet protocol version 4 (IPv4), IPv6 and MPLS. Providing comprehensive coverage of QoS issues within heterogeneous network environments, “QoS Over Heterogeneous Networks” looks to find solutions to questions such as does QoS fit within heterogeneous networks and what is the impact on performance if information traverses different network portions that implement specific QoS schemes. Includes: A series of algorithms and protocols to help solve potential QoS problems. State of the art case studies and operative examples to illustrate points made. Information on QoS mapping in terms of service-level specification (SLS) and an in-depth discussion of related issues Chapters end-to-end (E2E) QoS, QoS architecture, QoS over heterogeneous networks and QoS internetworking and mapping. An ideal book for graduate students, researchers and lecturers. System designers, developers and engineers will also find “QoS Over Heterogeneous Networks” a valuable reference.
