Book Description
What will happen to Christians in the future when they meet the Lord Jesus Christ? While true believers in Christ are assured of their deliverance from Hell, will they still face some form of punishment? Will they suffer punitive damages for sins committed on earth after becoming a child of God? Will Christians face the possibility of receiving a stinging rebuke from Christ, being rejected by Him, and cast into outer darkness to experience torment with wailing and gnashing of teeth? Are Christians still the objects of God's wrath? Is there a distinction between God's punishment and His discipline? What does it mean to be an overcomer? SHOULD CHRISTIANS FEAR OUTER DARKNESS? thoroughly answers these questions and more from the Bible. This book sets forth the contrast between true biblical teaching and the views of many contemporary proponents of outer darkness for Christians. SHOULD CHRISTIANS FEAR OUTER DARKNESS? clearly explains how God deals with every child of God in love and grace, rather than legalism and fear. If you are a Christian struggling with a perform-or-else approach to the Christian life and future, eternal rewards, this book will encourage you with the prospect of seeing your Savior face to face as your Blessed Hope.

The Outer Darkness

The Outer Darkness PDF Author: Marty Andrew Cauley
Publisher: Createspace Independent Pub
ISBN: 9781475142587
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 630

Book Description
Volume two of “The Outer Darkness” contains the remaining 6 chapters, plus 19 appendixes, and houses the endnotes and indexes for the entire two-volume set. Indexes are provided for author, subject, extrabiblical, biblical, Greek, Hebrew, and Slavonic citations. To help the visually oriented reader, over 375 illustrations are provided within the set, covering a wide range of topics and a wide assortment of illustrative techniques, such as: pictures, graphs, flow charts, and syllogisms.Surprisingly, perhaps, not all defenders of unconditional security within the Free Grace camp would regard the outer darkness as a misthological issue. They would see it as being a strictly soteriological issue (thus pertaining to salvation from eternal damnation). Their arguments have been addressed as well. Some writers within the Free Grace community interpret some of the passages regarding the outer darkness soterically but acknowledge that at least one passage is mistholic (and thus applicable to believers as a reward issue). Although Cauley prefers an exclusively misthological view of the outer darkness, he does entertain the plausibility of such a soteric-mistholic duality under the auspices of his Principle of Correlativity. This principle allows him to integrate divergent points of views held by various kingdom writers regarding the outer darkness. For example, what impact does one's understanding of the outer darkness have within kingdom circles upon one's interpretation of the Bride of Christ, Gehenna, and the Second Death? Presently, kingdom writers are disagreed among themselves as to the exact nature of these potentially intertwined issues. Does a misthological understanding of the outer darkness necessarily infer a misthological understanding of the Bride? In other words, will all believers compose the Bride even if some of them are cast into the outer darkness? Does being cast into the outer darkness necessarily entail being cast outside of the kingdom into Gehenna for a thousand years before being allowed into the eternal kingdom? Might a believer be hurt by the Second Death? For many years, Joseph Dillow's book, The Reign of the Servant Kings, was the most comprehensive treatment of such matters within the Free Grace community. He took what might he termed a classical view of the above issues. More recently, Dillow has performed a synthesis between the classical view and the more extreme views of Gehenna, into what The Outer Darkness refers to as a Preteristic Gehenna-Bema. However, this neo-Dillowian perspective might be further synthesized with the classical Dillowian perspective into what The Outer Darkness refers to as a Neoclassical Position. Therefore, The Outer Darkness not only interacts with both the classical Dillowian and neo-Dillowian perspectives but also provides the foundation for what comes next.

Jesus Outside the Lines

Jesus Outside the Lines PDF Author: Scott Sauls
Publisher: Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.
ISBN: 1496403835
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 289

Book Description
Whether the issue of the day on Twitter, Facebook, or cable news is our sexuality, political divides, or the perceived conflict between faith and science, today’s media pushes each one of us into a frustrating clash between two opposing sides. Polarizing, us-against-them discussions divide us and distract us from thinking clearly and communicating lovingly with others. Scott Sauls, like many of us, is weary of the bickering and is seeking a way of truth and beauty through the conflicts. Jesus Outside the Lines presents Jesus as this way. Scott shows us how the words and actions of Jesus reveal a response that does not perpetuate the destructive fray. Jesus offers us a way forward—away from harshness, caricatures, and stereotypes. In Jesus Outside the Lines, you will experience a fresh perspective of Jesus, who will not (and should not) fit into the sides.

The Skeletons in God's Closet

The Skeletons in God's Closet PDF Author: Joshua Ryan Butler
Publisher: HarperChristian + ORM
ISBN: 052910055X
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 382

Book Description
How can a loving God send people to hell? Isn’t it arrogant to believe Jesus is the only way to God? What is up with holy war in the Old Testament? Many of us fear God has some skeletons in the closet. Hell, judgment, and holy war are hot topics for the Christian faith that have a way of igniting fierce debate far and wide. These hard questions leave many wondering whether God is really good and can truly be trusted. The Skeletons in God's Closet confronts our popular caricatures of these difficult topics with the beauty and power of the real thing. Josh Butler reveals that these subjects are consistent with, rather than contradictory to, the goodness of God. He explores Scripture to reveal the plotlines that make sense of these tough topics in light of God’s goodness. From fresh angles, Josh deals powerfully with such difficult passages as: The Lake of Fire Lazarus and the Rich Man The Slaughter of Canaanites in the Old Testament Ultimately, The Skeletons in God's Close uses our toughest questions to provoke paradigm shifts in how we understand our faith as a whole. It pulls the “skeletons out of God’s closet” to reveal they were never really skeletons at all.

The Doleful Creatures of Outer Darkness

The Doleful Creatures of Outer Darkness PDF Author: Tina M. Moore
Publisher: Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.
ISBN:
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 209

Book Description
Perhaps you or someone you know exhibits patterns of instability in a particular aspect of life. This fluctuation may show up as erratic mood changes, excessive fears or worries, extreme feelings of guilt, bouts of depression, double-mindedness, addictive behaviors, sexual bondage, etc. In the New Testament, Paul teaches us that our struggle is not against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. The evil spirits that Paul referred to here are synonymous with the “wild beasts” that tempted Jesus in the wilderness for forty days. As a matter of fact, they are the same spirits that pressure us today, compelling us to the bitter realm of what the Bible refers to as outer darkness. The Old Testament reveals that these spirits embodied animals, the metaphorical doleful creatures mentioned in the book of Isaiah and throughout the entire Bible. However, God’s desire is to shine a light on these irritants so that we can cast them out and be made whole again. After all, Paul encouraged us to be openly aware of Satan’s devices, lest he should gain an advantage over us. The revelation knowledge you receive from this book will give you the insight you need to recover the parts of your life you’ve once lost or handed over to the enemy.

“This Is My Doctrine”: The Development of Mormon Theology

“This Is My Doctrine”: The Development of Mormon Theology PDF Author: Charles R. Harrell
Publisher: Greg Kofford Books
ISBN:
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 598

Book Description
The principal doctrines defining Mormonism today often bear little resemblance to those it started out with in the early 1830s. This book shows that these doctrines did not originate in a vacuum but were rather prompted and informed by the religious culture from which Mormonism arose. Early Mormons, like their early Christian and even earlier Israelite predecessors, brought with them their own varied culturally conditioned theological presuppositions (a process of convergence) and only later acquired a more distinctive theological outlook (a process of differentiation). In this first-of-its-kind comprehensive treatment of the development of Mormon theology, Charles Harrell traces the history of Latter-day Saint doctrines from the times of the Old Testament to the present. He describes how Mormonism has carried on the tradition of the biblical authors, early Christians, and later Protestants in reinterpreting scripture to accommodate new theological ideas while attempting to uphold the integrity and authority of the scriptures. In the process, he probes three questions: How did Mormon doctrines develop? What are the scriptural underpinnings of these doctrines? And what do critical scholars make of these same scriptures? In this enlightening study, Harrell systematically peels back the doctrinal accretions of time to provide a fresh new look at Mormon theology. “This Is My Doctrine” will provide those already versed in Mormonism’s theological tradition with a new and richer perspective of Mormon theology. Those unacquainted with Mormonism will gain an appreciation for how Mormon theology fits into the larger Jewish and Christian theological traditions.

Salvation in Three Time Zones

Salvation in Three Time Zones PDF Author: Dennis M. Rokser
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781939110008
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 158

Book Description
Do you know what the Bible means by the terms "saved" and "salvation"? Have you been saved in the past from sin's penalty? Are you being saved in the present from sin's power? And do you know with certainty that you will be saved in the future from sin's very presence? SALVATION IN THREE TIME ZONES explains why God's free gift of salvation is one of the most wonderful and vital subjects in the entire Bible and why distinguishing between the three tenses of salvation is essential for every believer's personal assurance, spiritual growth, and correct and consistent interpretation of God's Word. This practical study shows from the Bible that God's grace guarantees the believer in Christ a past and future salvation, while also providing all that is necessary for salvation in the present. Many difficult passages dealing with salvation are explained and clarified. Three chapters at the end of the book cover "test passages" to determine which type and tense of salvation is being referred to (Matthew 24:13; 1 Corinthians 3:15; and James 2:14-26).
