Book Description
Excerpt from Some Problems of the Peace Conference The purpose of the lectures here published is to give a rapid survey of the principal elements in that territorial settlement of Europe which has been pronounced "the most reasonable part of the work of the Conference" of Paris. Each problem is placed in its historical setting, while at the same time the effort is made to view it as something demanding practical solution in the treaties of peace. The perspective of proceedings as seen at Paris has been kept in mind throughout, although the authors have not felt at liberty to enter into the details of negotiations which may have become known to them in their official capacity. Limits of time and space restrict the treatment to Europe, and to those parts of Europe which came before the Conference for settlement. Hence Russia is necessarily omitted. The lectures are printed substantially as delivered at the Lowell Institute last January, with only incidental revision. In the spelling of place names the official local usage has been followed except where there is a well established English form. The first four chapters were prepared by Mr. Haskins, the last four by Mr. Lord. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Anglo-American Relations at the Paris Peace Conference of 1919

Anglo-American Relations at the Paris Peace Conference of 1919 PDF Author: Seth P. Tillman
Publisher: Princeton University Press
ISBN: 1400876729
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 457

Book Description
The year 1919 marks a high point in the world power and prestige of Western democracy. World War I was ended, and the victory belonged to the democratic states. Theirs was the sober task-and the unique opportunity-of formulating a settlement that would guarantee impartial justice and preserve the peace. Dr. Tillman examines here the documentary account of Anglo-American diplomatic relations during this critical period. He shows the interaction of personalities in both governments, the patterns of cooperation and conflict as they negotiated major issues of war and of peace, and the political repercussions in both England and America that led either to compromise or to defeat of some of the best purposes of the Versailles Treaty. Originally published in 1961. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. Some Legal Questions of the Peace Conference

Some Legal Questions of the Peace Conference PDF Author: Robert Lansing

Book Description
Excerpt from Some Legal Questions of the Peace Conference: Address I might expand the list of subjects for consideration suggested by the Treaty of Peace which will invite the' learning and wisdom of those who will, I sincerely hope, be charged with the codification of the principles of international law. Even if I subject myself to the charge of repetition, let me say that I most earnestly advocate the formulation of such a code by an international conference of jurists and publicists. With a definite standard of legal rights sanctioned by the nations the administration of international relations as well as the administration of international justice will become more con sistent and less a prey to expediency and political opportunism.
