Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 9780080932514
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 208

Book Description
This book is dedicated to studying the ocean with radar tools, in particular, with space radars. Being intended mainly for the scientists preoccupied with the problem (as well as senior course students), it concentrates and generalizes the knowledge scattered over specialized journals. The significant part of the book contains the results obtained by the author. * Systematically collects and describes the approaches used by different laboratories and institutions * Deals with the physics of radar imagery and specifically with ocean surface imagery. * Useful for students and researchers specializing in the area of ocean remote sensing using airborne or space-borne radars, both SAR and RAR

Imaging from Spaceborne and Airborne SARs, Calibration, and Applications

Imaging from Spaceborne and Airborne SARs, Calibration, and Applications PDF Author: Masanobu Shimada
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1315282607
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 377

Book Description
Sixty years after its birth, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) evolved as a key player of earth observation, and it is continually upgraded by enhanced hardware functionality and improved overall performance in response to user requirements. The basic information gained by SAR includes the backscattering coefficient of targets, their phases (the truncated distance between SAR and its targets), and their polarization dependence. The spatiotemporal combination of the multiple data operated on the satellite or aircraft significantly increases its sensitivity to detect changes on earth, including temporal variations of the planet in amplitude and the interferometric change for monitoring disasters; deformations caused by earthquakes, volcanic activity, and landslides; environmental changes; ship detection; and so on. Earth-orbiting satellites with the appropriate sensors can detect environmental changes because of their large spatial coverage and availability. Imaging from Spaceborne and Airborne SARs, Calibration, and Applications provides A-to-Z information regarding SAR researches through 15 chapters that focus on the JAXA L-band SAR, including hardware description, principles of SAR imaging, theoretical description of SAR imaging and error, ScanSAR imaging, polarimetric calibration, inflight antenna pattern, SAR geometry and ortho rectification, SAR calibration, defocusing for moving targets, large-scale SAR imaging and mosaic, interferometric SAR processing, irregularities, application, and forest estimation. Sample data are created by using L-band SAR, JERS-1, PALSAR, PALSAR-2, and Pi-SAR-L2. This book is based on the author’s experience as a principal researcher at JAXA with responsibilities for L-band SAR operation and researches. It reveals the inside of SAR processing and application researches performed at JAXA, which makes this book a valuable reference for a wide range of SAR researchers, professionals, and students.

Applications of Radar Remote Sensing in China

Applications of Radar Remote Sensing in China PDF Author: Guo Huadong
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9780415256766
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 362

Book Description
Over the last decade the field of spaceborne imaging radar remote sensing has advanced to the point where many new applications have become possible. Synthetic aperture radar with its all-weather and day-night capability has become one of the most sophisticated technologies for earth and planetary observation. The deployment of advanced experimental systems has allowed radar imaging data to feed into the analysis of environmental and geophysical problems: whether agricultural, land use, forestry, hydrology, geology, mineral exploration, urbanization, archaeology, natural hazards, oceanography or global change. This atlas provides a set of examples of high quality remote sensing work carried out with this leading technology in China, under the auspices of the Institute of Remote Sensing Applications of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and in collaboration with the USA, European Space Agency, Japan and the former USSR. These examples are discussed, compared with ground truth, and analyzed. It includes applications, data analysis, algorithm development, modeling and backscatter behavior analysis.
