Pages : 218

Book Description
Angie Hager’s path in life was not unfurling as she anticipated. Her womb was devoid of the babies she so desperately wanted to bring into the world. As she suffered in silence, she slowly began to realize that God had a plan for her life. But before his plan could take place, she first needed to learn lessons about herself, her marriage, and most importantly, how to rely on God through all circumstances. In a collection of heartfelt devotions, Hager shares personal stories, scripture, and reflective questions that demonstrate exactly how God is in control of every circumstance in our lives—including infertility. Her devotionals address the emotions that surround infertility such as jealousy, guilt, grief, and shame; the strain that infertility places on a marriage; our instinct to focus on what we don’t have instead of what we do; and our ability to find gratitude for all our blessings, even when they are not what we imagined them to be. Through it all, Hager reminds women that through prayer and faith, it is possible to strengthen their walk with Christ, even during such challenging times. Tamar’s Desire shares fifty-plus Christian devotions that offer hope, encouragement, and healing to those suffering from infertility.

Desires and Its Perversion in Believers

Desires and Its Perversion in Believers PDF Author: Toyin Akanni
Publisher: Xlibris Corporation
ISBN: 1669854116
Category : Self-Help
Languages : en
Pages : 132

Book Description
God has a desire. His ultimate desire is to bring out something good out of something insignificant or something bad. (Jabez is a classic example.) His desire is to reach to man to be saved from sin. Man needs to make up his mind, set goals about how to desire to make his life better. This is to be done against the background of the realization that Satan, in his wiles, is all out to pervert what is in the mind of God for man. This he does by working on man’s mind after carefully studying his weaknesses. Satan abuses his will and emotions and, thereby, perverts the rightful use of his senses; hence, he exhibits lust of eyes, lust of the flesh, and pride of life. This book is a treatise that unearths how Satan goes about making man to pervert his desires, the effect of this perversion on him and generations unborn, and how he can gain victory at the end of the day. It is a must-read for anyone who desires to be free from every perversion of life, particularly sexual perversion. Counselors, most especially men of God and pastors who are saddled with counseling responsibility and parents/guardians who need to provide proper direction and upbringing of their children and wards, will also find it most useful.

Tamar’s Tears

Tamar’s Tears PDF Author: Andrew Sloane
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 1630876127
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 426

Book Description
Evangelical and feminist approaches to Old Testament interpretation often seem to be at odds with each other. The authors of this volume argue to the contrary: feminist and evangelical interpreters of the Old Testament can enter into a constructive dialogue that will be fruitful to both parties. They seek to illustrate this with reference to a number of texts and issues relevant to feminist Old Testament interpretation from an explicitly evangelical point of view. In so doing they raise issues that need to be addressed by both evangelical and feminist interpreters of the Old Testament, and present an invitation to faithful and fruitful reading of these portions of Scripture.

Texts after Terror

Texts after Terror PDF Author: Rhiannon Graybill
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 019008233X
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 251

Book Description
Texts after Terror offers an important new theory of rape and sexual violence in the Hebrew Bible. While the Bible is filled with stories of rape, scholarly approaches to sexual violence in the scriptures remain exhausted, dated, and in some cases even un-feminist, lagging far behind contemporary discourse about sexual violence and rape culture. Graybill responds to this disconnect by engaging contemporary conversations about rape culture, sexual violence, and #MeToo, arguing that rape and sexual violence - both in the Bible and in contemporary culture - are frequently fuzzy, messy, and icky, and that we need to take these features seriously. Texts after Terror offers a new framework informed by contemporary conversations about sexual violence, writings by victims and survivors, and feminist, queer, and affect theory. In addition, Graybill offers significant new readings of biblical rape stories, including Dinah (Gen. 34), Tamar (2 Sam. 13), Bathsheba (2 Sam. 11), Hagar (Gen. 16), Daughter Zion (Lam. 1-2), and the unnamed woman known as the Levite's concubine (Judges 19). Texts after Terror urges feminist biblical scholars and readers of all sorts to take seriously sexual violence and rape, while also holding space for new ways of reading these texts that go beyond terror, considering what might come after.

Pseudo-Philo

Pseudo-Philo PDF Author: Frederick J. Murphy
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 0195360427
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 337

Book Description
This is a literary and theological study of the Biblical Antiquities of Pseudo-Philo--a long, well-written reinterpretation of the Hebrew Bible written by a Palestinian Jew of the first century C.E. Using the methodologies of redaction and literary criticism, Murphy provides an analysis of the whole of the Biblical Antiquities. After a chapter-by-chapter analysis, Murphy addresses several topics more generally--major characters, major themes, and the historical context of the work. Full concordances to the Latin text are provided to assist future research on Pseudo-Philo. This book will prove an important resource for students of Jewish interpretation of the Bible at the end of the Second Temple period. It also sheds light on Jewish thought of the period regarding covenant, leadership in Israel, women in Israel, relations with Gentiles, divine providence, divine retribution, eschatology, and many other subjects. Furnishing a broad interpretive context for future work on the Biblical Antiquities, this study gives students of the Bible access to an important literary and religious product of first-century Judaism.
