Book Description
Excerpt from The Book of Revelation In ordinary circumstances one who undertakes to comment upon a book of the New Testament may be justly expected to make every effort to explain each successive clause and each difficult expression of the book on which he writes. My aim in the following Commentary is rather to catch the general import and object of the Revelation of St. John considered as a whole. The latter purpose indeed cannot be attained unless the commentator has himself paid faithful attention to the former; but it is not necessary that the results of these inquiries should in every case be presented to the English reader. To him this book is for the most part a perplexity and enigma, and he would only be embarrassed by a multitude of details. It seemed well, therefore, to treat the book in its sections and paragraphs rather than verse by verse; and this is the course pursued in the following pages. The translation used is for the most part that of the Revised Version. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Forgotten Books uses state-of-the-art technology to digitally reconstruct the work, preserving the original format whilst repairing imperfections present in the aged copy. Book Description
Excerpt from Lectures on the Book of Revelation This little book is written especially for the or dinary Bible reader, who generally considers the Book of Revelation a profound mystery. The au thor does not claim to be infallible in his interpre tations, nor does he expect every one to agree with him in his views. His aim is to give the simplest interpretation of the symbols and figures used in the book, and thereby make it interesting as well as profitable. After long and earnest study of the Book of Revelation, the author has given to the reader what he conceives to be the most likely meaning of the book, by interpreting its symbol isms in the most rational manner. There may be errors in this little book; but if so, the author hopes and believes that they will do no real harm, as they will not misconstrue any Bible truth, nor add to, nor take from, God's word. Notes on the Book of the Revelation (Classic Reprint)

Notes on the Book of the Revelation (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: Thomas Newberry
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781331094166
Category : Religion

Pages : 158

Book Description
Excerpt from Notes on the Book of the Revelation The Revelation of Jesus Christ, not which God gave concerning Him, but which God gave unto Him; thus removing the veil which hung over the future, both as to time and to eternity. In the Divine actings there is order, harmony, and unity. The three persons in the adorable Trinity ever act in unison, but each in their own order; everything originates with the Father, is accomplished through the Son, and by the Holy Ghost When Jesus was on earth, He could say, "I have not spoken of [or from] Myself; but the Father which sent Me, he gave Me commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak" (John xii. 49). After His resurrection it was through the Holy Ghost that He gave commandments unto the apostles whom He had chosen. Even so it is here. The Lord Jesus received the revelation from the Father, and by angelic ministry communicated it to His servant John, who wrote it under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit "To show unto His servants [bond-servants] things which must shortly come to pass." It is as bond or bought servants, the entire property of Him who has redeemed us to God by His blood, that we are prepared to enter spiritually into these things - things beginning to have their accomplishment in the symbolic history of the Church - chapters ii. and iii, and going on to the end. Thoughts, Critical and Practical, on the Book of Revelation (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: Uriah Smith

Book Description
Excerpt from Thoughts, Critical and Practical, on the Book of Revelation The Character of the Book. This is expressed in one word, Revelation. A revelation is something revealed, something clearly made known, not some thing hidden and concealed. Moses, in Deut. 29 29, tells us that the secret things belong unto the Lord our God but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children forever. The very title of the book, then, is a sufficient refutation of the popular opinion of to-day, that this book is among the hidden mysteries of God, and cannot be understood. Were this the case, it should bear some such title as The Mystery, or The Hidden Book certainly not that of The Revelation. Book Description
Excerpt from The Book of the Revelation The Book of Revelation is not one the whole meaning of which lies upon the surface. It differs from the other books of the New Testament in this, that the ideas it contains are expressed not only in words, but in words and symbols. The meaning of the symbols must have been clear to the first readers, but is not longer obvious to us. It can only be ascertained when patient investigation in many fields has reconstructed the political, social, and religious environment of the Christian communities in "Asia" at the end of the first century. That reconstruction is not yet complete, but the remarkable progress of recent years makes it already possible to interpret with considerable certainty nearly all the symbols which are used, and thus to read the book approximately as it was read by those to whom it was first addressed. The Revelation of John (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: Edward Clarence Farnsworth

Book Description
Excerpt from The Revelation of John On the other hand, if he be possessed of that special information which should qualify the inter preter for his office, another snare is waiting to trap him as we shall see. Study of Eastern religions and philosophies has revealed to many investigators that the pure, and noble, and uplifting, is not the sole property of Christianity. This discovery has some times resulted in a belittling of Jesus the Christ, whereas he is the chief cornerstone of that Temple of Truth into which many great and dedicated lives have been builded. This being so, let the qualified interpreter refrain from substituting for the name of Jesus Christ that of another, however exalted. If to such an interpreter the book of Revelation seem only a series of chapters taken from the initiatory rites of the Ancient Mysteries, it must be admitted that, for reasons to be explained presently, his ingenuity and special knowledge can make the book conform in a way to his theory, but it should be said that his meanings, however plausible, will be only secondary and, at a time like the present, his giving will be but a stone to those who cry for bread. Reve lation deals with world-happenings, in fact with the renovation of the human race and the earth itself, and not with that merely personal development for which the Mysteries existed, and which is only a type, the little likeness of the large.
