Think On These Things

Think On These Things PDF Author: Stanley George
Publisher: Notion Press
ISBN:
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 100

Book Description
When leaders use the public forum to speak and propagate their beliefs and thought processes, be it religious views or political thoughts, it is the responsibility of the listener to make an informed decision. Whether or not they act on the preaching is a decision that the audience makes, every individual in the audience, and the consequences of those decisions, good or bad, are to be borne in its entirety by that individual. They will need to use their God-given intelligence to discern right from wrong, moral from immoral, encouragement from tearing down, creation from destruction and choose life over death. The propagator, similarly, cannot be vindicated from the consequences of those actions. Just as they enjoy the applause and adulation of their audience, they should be mindful of the effects of a wrongful message and take responsibility for the same. Being aware of the fact that what they say and do is being watched by their audience, they should automatically restrain their words, actions, posts and even their very thought processes. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – think on these things. ~ Philippians 4:8

Book Description
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER From Danielle Steel comes a heartwarming and inspirational novel about a mother and daughter who face challenges, cope with celebrity, and overcome tragedy while maintaining the outward appearance of . . . A PERFECT LIFE The epitome of intelligence, high-powered energy, and grace, Blaise McCarthy is an icon in the world of television news, asking the tough questions and taking on the emotionally charged issues of world affairs and politics with courage and insight. A single mother, she manages her well-ordered career meticulously, always prepared on the air or interviewing world-renowned figures and heads of state. To her audience, Blaise seems to have it all. But privately, and off the set, there is another untold story she has kept hidden for years. Blaise’s teenage daughter, Salima, was blinded by Type 1 diabetes in childhood, and her needs have kept her away in a year-round boarding school with full-time medical care and assistance ever since. When Salima’s school closes after a tragedy, Salima returns to her mother’s New York City apartment, and suddenly they face challenges they’ve never had to deal with before, and that Blaise feels ill-equipped to handle. A new caretaker provided by Salima’s school creates as many problems as he solves. Handsome, accomplished, thirty-two-year-old Simon Ward, with strong opinions on every topic, questions how mother and daughter view themselves and each other. Simon opens new doors for both of them and refuses to accept Salima’s physical limitations. He turns their world upside down, and the three become friends. Then everything starts to unravel and Blaise can’t keep her two worlds separate anymore. A beautiful young anchorwoman is hired at the network; it is no secret that she is being groomed to take Blaise’s place. Her career as she has known it is threatened, and her previously well-ordered life feels totally out of control. For the first time, Blaise’s life is not perfect, but real. In this unforgettable tale, the incomparable Danielle Steel has written a novel that pulsates with emotion and honesty as three people face the truth about themselves. A Perfect Life is about what we do when facades fall away and we can no longer run from the truth. As old ideas fail, everything changes, and life is suddenly brand-new. Praise for A Perfect Life “A classic Steel story, with a mother and daughter keeping up appearances as they overcome tragedy and learn a thing or two about themselves.”—Library Journal “It’s the lessons learned by the mother-daughter duo about love, loyalty and family that bring them closer together than ever before in Steel’s latest heartwarming page-turner.”—Closer Weekly

Prophecy

Prophecy PDF Author: Howard Kreisel
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9401008205
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 671

Book Description
More than any other topic, prophecy represents the point at which the Divine meets the human, the Absolute meets the relative. How can a human being attain the Word of God? In what manner does God, when conceived as eternal and transcendent, address corporeal, transitory creatures? What happens to God's divine Truth when it is beheld by minds limited in their power to apprehend, and influenced by the intellectual currents of their time and place? How were these issues viewed by the great Jewish philosophers of the past, who took the divine communication and all it entails seriously, while at the same time desired to understand it as much as humanly possible in the course of dealing with a myriad of other issues that occupied their attention? This book offers an in-depth study of prophecy in the thought of seven of the leading medieval Jewish philosophers: R. Saadiah Gaon, R. Judah Halevi, Maimonides, Gersonides, R. Hasdai Crescas, R. Joseph Albo and Baruch Spinoza. It attempts to capture the `original voice' of these thinkers by looking at the intellectual milieus in which they developed their philosophies, and by carefully analyzing their views in their textual contexts. It also deals with the relation between the earlier approaches and the later ones. Overall, this book presents a significant model for narrating the history of an idea.

Progress & Identity in the Plays of W.B. Yeats, 1892-1907

Progress & Identity in the Plays of W.B. Yeats, 1892-1907 PDF Author: Barbara A. Suess
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1135454078
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 218

Book Description
Progress and Identity in the Poems of W. B. Yeats explores the ways in which Yeats's plays offer an alternative form of progress via a philosophical system of opposites: Always seeking the opposite, the nature of which changes as we change, we continually augment our personalities, and ultimately improve society, with the inclusion of the Other. This system, which eventually became Yeats's doctrine of the mask, provided his contemporaries with a method of changing what science, Platonism, and Victorian bourgeois ideologies claimed to be inescapable qualities of self. Progress and Identityn relocates Yeats's literary, social, and political relevance from his essentializing cultural nationalism to his later, more broad-minded definitions of progress.
