Not the least interesting remark which it suggests is, that the mutilations, to which our churches have visibly been subjected, were not the work of the Reformation, which would give them a certain authority in the eyes of Protestants, but are to be referred to the Rebellion in the next century, a political and ecclesiastical catastrophe which went far indeed beyond the wishes and intentions of the Reformers.
