Book Description
She told the truth. And now she’s his prisoner. Shannan Fitzroy knows a secret about the timeline. She knows North America was never supposed to be a Catholic theocracy. It was never supposed to be almost exclusively white. And it wasn’t supposed to be legal for dissenters to just… disappear. Shannan knows how to put all of it right. But the men who rule will never allow that to happen. As her sanity is slowly worn down by her interrogator, one member of the Council must save Shannan from her sociopathic captor before she submits to her brainwashing. Before she becomes a part of the future that should never have been.

Fissures

Category : Fiction

Pages : 107

Book Description
Grant Faulkner's sharply observed, darkly funny, heart-breaking bursts of highly compressed prose offers a startling view of what reality might look like through a funhouse microscope. Fissures pushes the boundaries of flash prose, and thank goodness for that. Sometimes less is so much more. -Dinty W. Moore, author of Dear Mister Essay Writer Guy: Advice and Confessions on Writing, Love, and Cannibals

Some Hell

Some Hell PDF Author: Patrick Nathan
Publisher: Graywolf Press
ISBN: 1555979882
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 288

Book Description
A wrenching and layered debut novel about a gay teen’s coming-of-age in the aftermath of his father’s suicide Colin’s family is dissolving in the aftermath of his father’s suicide. While his mother, Diane, retreats into therapy and cynicism, Colin clings to every shred of normal life. Awash with guilt, he casts about for someone to confide in: first his estranged grandfather, then a predatory science teacher. Shunned by his siblings and rejected by his homophobic best friend, Colin immerses himself in the notebooks his father left behind. Full of strange facts, lists, and historical anecdotes that neither Colin nor Diane can understand, the notebooks infect their worldview until they can no longer tell what’s real and what’s imagined. A novel of aching intensity, Some Hell shows how unspeakable tragedy shapes a life, and how imagination saves us from ourselves.

Investigation of land subsidence and earth fissures in Cedar Valley, Iron County, Utah

Investigation of land subsidence and earth fissures in Cedar Valley, Iron County, Utah PDF Author: Paul Inkenbrandt
Publisher: Utah Geological Survey
ISBN: 1557918910
Category : Base flow (Hydrology)
Languages : en
Pages : 84

Book Description
This 116-page report presents the results of an investigation by the Utah Geological Survey of land subsidence and earth fissures in Cedar Valley, Iron County, Utah. Basin-fill sediments of the Cedar Valley Aquifer contain a high percentage of fine-grained material susceptible to compaction upon dewatering. Groundwater discharge in excess of recharge (groundwater mining) has lowered the potentiometric surface in Cedar Valley as much as 114 feet since 1939. Groundwater mining has caused permanent compaction of fine-grained sediments of the Cedar Valley aquifer, which has caused the land surface to subside, and a minimum of 8.3 miles of earth fissures to form. Recently acquired interferometric synthetic aperture radar imagery shows that land subsidence has affected approximately 100 mi² in Cedar Valley, but a lack of accurate historical benchmark elevation data over much of the valley prevents its detailed quantification. Continued groundwater mining and resultant subsidence will likely cause existing fissures to lengthen and new fissures to form which may eventually impact developed areas in Cedar Valley. This report also includes possible aquifer management options to help mitigate subsidence and fissure formation, and recommended guidelines for conducting subsidence-related hazard investigations prior to development.

The Fissure King

The Fissure King PDF Author: Rachel Pollack
Publisher: Resurrection House
ISBN: 1630230847
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 239

Book Description
Inspired equally by the classic TV noir Western, Have Gun, Will Travel, and Vladimir Nabokov’s most daring novel, Pale Fire, multiple award-winning writer Rachel Pollack brings us the adventures of Jack Shade, occult “Traveler” and modern shaman for hire. Jack has a secret, and this hidden part of his past sends him on a journey through spells and gateways to other worlds, each one stranger than the last, filled with such figures as professional Dream Hunters, gangster magicians, an invisible spirit fox named Ray, an elegant Jinni named Archie, and the Queen of Eyes—holder of all oracular power in the world. From the high stakes poker table in the Hôtel de Rêve Noire, to the deadly Forest Of Souls, to a cave where he must trap a sixty-five thousand year old demon, Jack flows in and out of this world. Even when his own dream duplicate hires him to kill himself, Jack is mercury in motion—Jack the Nimble, Jack the Quick—until he runs out of tricks and must face his greatest fear. The Fissure King: A Novel In Five Stories collects the four existing Jack Shade novellas, plus a new story that will require Jack’s greatest sacrifice and change his very existence.
