The original information from which birth statistics are derived is obtained from physicians, midwives, parents, householders, superintendents of hospitals and institutions, and birth canvassers. The statutes of the Commonwealth provide that city and town clerks shall receive or Obtain and record certain facts relative to births in their city or town, the intent of this law obviously being to require the clerks to obtain the facts if they do not receive them.
