The Home Poultry Book (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: Edward Irving Farrington

ISBN: 9780484522489
Category : Pets
Languages : en
Pages : 262

Book Description
Excerpt from The Home Poultry Book O doubt the experts Whose eyes chance to N fall on this book will say that it is ele mentary. It is, and purposely so. It is designed first and last for the amateur who has no time or inclination to read technical and semi-tech nical books on poultry keeping. It aims to tell the man with a few hens what to do and how to do it. There are certain statements with which some poul try keepers will disagree. We may look for the millennium when the men who keep hens come to be of one mind as to the management of them. However, no pet theory has been put forward or new system advocated. What has been written is based largely on personal experience and what has been learned in visits to many poultry plants, large and small, in different parts of the country. It is sent out with the hope that some amateurs may find in it a suggestion or two which will help them to get more eggs with less expense and have more fun doing it. Just Plain Chicken Talk (Classic Reprint)

Just Plain Chicken Talk (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: William Coultas De Lapp

Book Description
Excerpt from Just Plain Chicken Talk Just plain chicken talk is the title of this book and just a plain everyday poultry man wrote it. The idea of writing a book had never occurred to the author, but after talking and explaining chickens to hundreds of men and women engaged in this particular business he was led at their earnest solicitation to set forth his ideas and the ideas of others with whom he has come in contact. In the following pages the author has simply tried, with no attempt at fine phraseology and detailed theory, to explain what he knows about poultry. This book is based upon practical chicken knowledge by practical people with no attempt to offer any plan or suggestion which cannot be practically carried out. There is a prevailing idea that there are many failures in the poultry business. This is the wrong impression. Of those who take up the business as a means of livelihood, there are no more failures than in any other vocation. To be sure there have been some large failures, but this has been mostly due to lack of experience, or perhaps they have had some ideas as to the feeding, housing, etc., that they wanted to carry out at the expense of their pocketbook. It most certainly is experience that counts, or at least it pays to follow the advice of one who has had experience and made a success of the business. I would not think of entering the dressmaking business without some knowledge or experience, yet we have heard of failures on this account in the poultry business. Don't ever think that because you have read of the success of others who have had years of experience, that with money you can accomplish more than they. Money at the spur of the moment will not do any great amount of good. If you had the equivalent in a flock of good birds and experience or knowledge, you would be in a position to succeed. I would rather have knowledge and experience than money to start in the poultry business, though both are necessary in their respective places. Even with knowledge, you will find so many little things that only experience can teach. Many wish to start in the poultry business, but have no funds. Book Description
Excerpt from Tales of a Poultry Farm My dear Little readers: - I have often wondered why there were not more stories written about Chickens and their friends, and now I am glad that there have been so few, for I have greatly enjoyed writing some for you. Did I ever tell you that I cared for my father's Chickens when I was a little girl? That was one of my duties, and the most pleasant of all. It was not until I was older that I became acquainted with Ducks, Geese, and Turkeys, and I always wish that I might have lived on a poultry farm like the one of which I have written, for then I could have learned much more than I did. You must not think that I understand no language but English. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
