Book Description
"The Lecture Series will cover the field of airborne and spaceborne SAR with respect to its technical realisation in order to convey the participants' ideas and know-how on SAR, on its capabilities and on the technology necessary for the successful construction and application of airborne and spaceborne SAR systems. The basic principles of SAR will be explained and SAR will be compared to airborne and spaceborne radar with real aperture. The influence of the antenna parameters on specification and capabilities of SAR and the advantages, necessities and limits will be considered. Digital SAR processing Is indispensable for SAR. Theories and special algorithms will be given along with basic processor configurations and different processing techniques on a hardware and software basis. The simulation of SAR-systems as well as SAR-products will also be a topic of the Lecture Series. A presentation of the present state of the art, giving examples of presently planned and realised airborne and spaceborne SAR with its foreseen applications will conclude the Lecture Series. This Lecture Series, sponsored by the Avionics Panel of AGARD, has been implemented by the Consultant and Exchange Programme. Airborne radar, Remote sensing, Algorithms, Simulation, Digital techniques, Spaceborne equipment, inverse synthetic aperture radar, Synthetic aperture antennas, Polarization (waves), Synthetic aperture radar. ANNOTATION: Fundamentals and Special Problems of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) --Translation. ."--Stinet.

Synthetic Aperture Radar Polarimetry

Synthetic Aperture Radar Polarimetry PDF Author: Jakob J. van Zyl
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1118116097
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 285

Book Description
This book describes the application of polarimetric synthetic aperture radar to earth remote sensing based on research at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). This book synthesizes all current research to provide practical information for both the newcomer and the expert in radar polarimetry. The text offers a concise description of the mathematical fundamentals illustrated with many examples using SAR data, with a main focus on remote sensing of the earth. The book begins with basics of synthetic aperture radar to provide the basis for understanding how polarimetric SAR images are formed and gives an introduction to the fundamentals of radar polarimetry. It goes on to discuss more advanced polarimetric concepts that allow one to infer more information about the terrain being imaged. In order to analyze data quantitatively, the signals must be calibrated carefully, which the book addresses in a chapter summarizing the basic calibration algorithms. The book concludes with examples of applying polarimetric analysis to scattering from rough surfaces, to infer soil moisture from radar signals.

The Millimeter Wave Synthetic Aperture Radar Technology

The Millimeter Wave Synthetic Aperture Radar Technology PDF Author: Hui Wang
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9789819710430
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
This book highlights the basic theories and technical principles of the synthetic aperture radar (SAR), aiming to bridge theories and applications for readers. Supported by the practical experience of the author's dedicated research, this book also constructs the SAR theoretical system from multiple perspectives. The synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is a weather-independent microwave remote sensing device that involves a number of multidisciplinary fields such as signal processing and image information processing. Written by experts in remote sensing and signal processing, the book explains the signal echo modeling, imaging principles and algorithms, image quality control methods, and image applications. Readers are provided with concise descriptions of commonly used imaging algorithms for SAR in multiple regimes, modes, and applications, including the Range Doppler Algorithm (RDA) and the Frequency Scaling Algorithm (FSA). Continuous wave/pulse regime SAR technology, inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) technology, digital beam forming (DBF), interferometry, and moving target detection methods are discussed in detail. The book is a must-read and comprehensive reference for researchers and engineers engaged in the R&D of the SAR and for graduate students interested in the field.

Small Satellite Missions for Earth Observation

Small Satellite Missions for Earth Observation PDF Author: Rainer Sandau
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642035019
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 455

Book Description
This book was compiled from contributions given at the 7th IAA Symposium on Small Satellites for Earth Observation, May 4–8, 2009, Berlin (IAA – International Academy of Astronautics). From the 15 sessions for oral presentations and two poster sessions, 52 contributions were selected which are representative for the new developments and trends in the area of small satellites for Earth observation. They re ect the potentials of a diversity of missions and related technologies. This may be based on national projects or international co-operations, single satellites of constellations, pico-, nano-, micro- or mini-satellites, developed by companies, research institutions or agencies. The main focus is on new missions to monitor our Earth’s resources (Part I), and the environment in which our Earth is emb- ded (Part II). Part III deals with distributed space systems, a unique feature of small satellites and in most cases impractical to do with large satellites. Here we concentrate on constellations of satellites with focus on future missions relying on co-operating satellites. For all the new developments and projects we need well e- cated specialists coming from the universities. Many universities included already the development and implementation of small satellites in their curriculum. The u- versity satellites chapter (Part IV) shows the high quality which is already reached by some of the universities worldwide.
