Flood Evaluation and Dam Safety

Flood Evaluation and Dam Safety PDF Author: CIGB ICOLD
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1351031082
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 361

Book Description
Hydrology and dams are two fields that are obviously closely related. Four bulletins have so far been published by the Committee: Selection of Design Flood โ€“ Current methods, Dams and Floods โ€“ Guidelines and cases histories, Role of Dams in Flood Mitigation โ€“ A review and Integrated Flood Management. These bulletins have essentially addressed floods, the risks they represent and their significance for the concerned populations. The present Bulletin deviates slightly from this path, adopting a somewhat more technical perspective. The text consists of three chapters, conceived to be accessible to the practitioners.

Dam Breach Modeling Technology

Dam Breach Modeling Technology PDF Author: V.P. Singh
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9401587477
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 255

Book Description
Dams are constructed for economic development, and their construction involves large investments of money, and natural and human resources. Of the various types of dams constructed around the globe, earth dams are the most common type and constitute the vast majority of dams. When adam fails, it culminates in the sudden release of artificially stored water which, in turn, becomes a potential menace to virtually everything downstream. The dam failure may result in loss of life and property. In recent years, instances of dam failure in the world have been too many, and the resulting loss too high. As a result, dam safety pro grams have been developed in most countries of the world since the beginning of the nineteenth eighties. ยท Earth dams are more susceptible to failure than other types. The cause of failure is often either overtopping or piping. The modeling of dam breaching due to either or both of these causes is of fundamental importance to development of dam-safety programs. This book is, therefore, an attempt to present some aspects of earth-dam breach modeling technology. It is hoped that others will be stimulated to write more comprehensive texts on this subject of growing interest and importance. The book is divided into eight chapters. The first chapter is introductory and discusses some aspects of dams and dam failures in the world.

Flood Damage Assessments Using Spatial Data Management Techniques

Flood Damage Assessments Using Spatial Data Management Techniques PDF Author: Darryl W. Davis
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Flood control
Languages : en
Pages : 34

Book Description
"The Corps of Engineers Hydrologic Engineering Center has developed techniques that perform the spatial data analysis approach and individual structure approach and work is near completion on an integrated analysis package. The capability therefore exists to perform damage appraisals in a manner that encourages a general geographic and land use approach (thus greatly facilitating the study of nonstructural measures) while preserving the ability to analyze individual, unique structures should the need arise. This paper discusses the basic concepts of a spatial data management approach to damage appraisals and highlight(s) its integrated use with more traditional individual structure approaches. Selected example results are presented"--Page 2
