Human Resource Strategies for Organizations in Transition
Author: R.J. Niehaus
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1468457578
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 320
Book Description
This volume is the proceedings of a symposium entitled "Human Resource Strategies for Organizations in Transition" which was held at Salve Regina College, Newport, Rhode Island on May 30 - June 2, 1989. The meeting was sponsored by the Research Committee of the Human Resource Planning Society (HRPS). In developing the agenda, the Research Committee built upon the format of the previous HRPS research symposia. The intent in these meetings is on the linkage of the state-of-practice with the state-of-the-art. Particular attention was placed on research studies which were application oriented so that member organizations can see examples of ways to extend current practices with the knowledge presented by the applications. The meeting has sessions on: (1) Reshaping the Organization for the Twenty-first Century, (2) Coping with Major Organizational Change, (3) Organization Downsizing, (4) Evaluating the Human Resource Function and (5) The Impact of Corporate Culture on Future Human Resource Practices. Thirty papers were presented with discussion sessions at appropriate points in the meeting. This volume contains twenty one of these papers along with an introductory paper. A short summary is also provided at the beginning of each major subdivision into which the papers are arranged.

Quantitative Planning and Control
Author: Yuji Ijiri
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 1483259366
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 376
Book Description
Quantitative Planning and Control: Essays in Honor of William Wager Cooper on the Occasion of His 65th Birthday features a collection of papers prepared by students and associates of William Wager Cooper to honor him on the occasion of his sixty-fifth birthday. The book centers on the theme of Quantitative Planning and Control, the theme to which much of Professor Cooper's research effort has been devoted. The theme covers diverse fields of inquiry as reflected in the articles in this book, which are organized in four parts: (1) mathematical programming and decision models; (2) economic development and firm growth; (3) manpower planning and design; and (4) accounting and control. At the core of all of the articles in this book lies a belief that analytical approaches can help solve all managerial problems, a philosophy that is deeply rooted in Professor Cooper's thinking. This book demonstrates how this fundamental view on management can be reflected in dealing with problems in various fields of management. In particular, the book focuses on three main areas of application of this view, economic development, manpower planning, and accounting and control, along with the subject of developing tools that are necessary for solving managerial problems analytically.
