Computational Fluid Dynamics for Wind Engineering

Computational Fluid Dynamics for Wind Engineering PDF Author: R. Panneer Selvam
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 111984505X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 245

Book Description
COMPUTATIONAL FLUID DYNAMICS FOR WIND ENGINEERING An intuitive and comprehensive exploration of computational fluid dynamics in the study of wind engineering Computational Fluid Dynamics for Wind Engineering provides readers with a detailed overview of the use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in understanding wind loading on structures, a problem becoming more pronounced as urban density increases and buildings become larger. The work emphasizes the application of CFD to practical problems in wind loading and helps readers understand important associated factors such as turbulent flow around buildings and bridges. The author, with extensive research experience in this and related fields, offers relevant and engaging practice material to help readers learn and retain the concepts discussed, and each chapter includes accessible summaries at the end. In addition, the use of the OpenFOAM tool—an open-source wind engineering application—is explored. Computational Fluid Dynamics for Wind Engineering covers topics such as: Fluid mechanics, turbulence in fluid mechanics, turbulence modelling, and mathematical modelling of wind engineering problems The finite difference method for CFD, solutions to the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, visualization, and animation in CFD, and the application of CFD to building and bridge aerodynamics How to compare CFD analysis with wind tunnel measurements, field measurements, and the ASCE-7 pressure coefficients Wind effects and strain on large structures Providing comprehensive coverage of how CFD can explain wind load on structures along with helpful examples of practical applications, Computational Fluid Dynamics for Wind Engineering serves as an invaluable resource for senior undergraduate students, graduate students, researchers and practitioners of civil and structural engineering.

Computational Wind Engineering 2

Computational Wind Engineering 2 PDF Author: R.N. Meroney
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 1024

Book Description
Contains 80-plus selected--and reviewed--papers from the August 1996 symposium, held to examine the accomplishments and challenges posed by the rapid development of computational fluid dynamics as applied to the discipline of wind engineering. Summaries of the discussions, questions, and author responses are also included. Subjects addressed include aerodynamics of bluff bodies, bridges, vehicles, terrain, and buildings; structural response; air pollution; lab methodology and validation; and new computational schemes. An appendix lists abstracts of papers presented but not published. Keynote presentations cover current status and future trends in computational wind engineering (CWE); large eddy simulation of flow past a cubic obstacle; use of meteorological models in CWE; and past achievements and future challenges in CWE. Pages : 925

Book Description
The aim of this volume is to explore the challenges posed by the rapid development of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) within the field of engineering. CFD is already essential to research concerned with fluid flow in civil engineering, and its further potential for application in wind engineering is highly promising. State-of-the-art papers from all over the world are contained here, illuminating the present parameters of the field, as well as suggesting fruitful areas for further research. Eleven papers have been contributed by invited speakers outstanding in the fields of CFD and wind engineering. This volume will serve as a vehicle to promote further development in computational wind engineering.

Wind Energy - Impact of Turbulence

Wind Energy - Impact of Turbulence PDF Author: Michael Hölling
Publisher: Springer Science & Business
ISBN: 364254696X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 210

Book Description
This book presents the results of the seminar “Wind Energy and the Impact of Turbulence on the Conversion Process” which was supported from three societies, namely the EUROMech, EAWE and ERCOFATC and took place in Oldenburg, Germany in spring 2012. The seminar was one of the first scientific meetings devoted to the common topic of wind energy and basic turbulence. The established community of researchers working on the challenging puzzle of turbulence for decades met the quite young community of researchers, who face the upcoming challenges in the fast growing field of wind energy applications. From the fluid mechanical point of view, wind turbines are large machines operating in the fully turbulent atmospheric boundary layer. In particular they are facing small-scale turbulent inflow conditions. It is one of the central puzzles in basic turbulence research to achieve a fundamental understanding of the peculiarities of small-scale turbulence. This book helps to better understand the resulting aerodynamics around the wind turbine’s blades and the forces transmitted into the machinery in this context of puzzling inflow conditions. This is a big challenge due to the multi-scale properties of the incoming wind field ranging from local flow conditions on the profile up to the interaction of wake flows in wind farms.
