Book Description
“Palladian Days is nothing short of wonderful–part adventure, mystery, history, diary, and even cookbook. The Gables’ lively account captures the excitement of their acquisition and restoration of one of the greatest houses in Italy. Beguiled by Palladio and the town of Piombino Dese, they trace the history of the Villa Cornaro and their absorption of Italian life. Bravo!” –Susan R. Stein, Gilder Curator and Vice President of Museum Programs, MonticelloIn 1552, in the countryside outside Venice, the great Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio built Villa Cornaro. In 1989, Sally and Carl Gable became its bemused new owners. Called by Town & Country one of the ten most influential buildings in the world, the villa is the centerpiece of the Gables’ enchanting journey into the life of a place that transformed their own. From the villa’s history and its architectural pleasures, to the lives of its former inhabitants, to the charms of the little town that surrounds it, this loving account brings generosity, humor, and a sense of discovery to the story of small-town Italy and its larger national history.

Seven Days in the Valle

Seven Days in the Valle PDF Author: W. Scott Koenig
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781732102019
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 54

Book Description
Seven Days In The Valle: Baja California's Wine Country Cuisine documents the lives, cuisine and restaurants of seven of Baja California's most talented culinary artists working in the Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico's main wine-producing region. Through a series of photos and a number of intimate interviews with the chefs, this book captures their thoughts on Baja California cuisine, their feelings about the Valle (and its future), and a bit of their souls in the process and presentation. The Valle de Guadalupe - located just 90 minutes south of the US-Mexican border near San Diego - is considered "ground zero" of the country's newest culinary movement. The style of food here is often referred to as Baja California cuisine or "Baja Med" due to its blend of Mediterranean dishes and recipes with the region's bounty of fresh, organic produce and proteins produced on-site at the restaurants or sourced from small Baja California ranches. Seven Days In The Valle: Baja California's Wine Country Cuisine features interviews with: Drew Deckman of Deckman's en El Mogor, Esthela Martínez of La Cocina de Doña Esthela, Roberto Alcocer of Malva, Miguel Angel Guerrero of La Esperanza, Sheyla Alvarado of Traslomita, Diego Hernandez of Corazon de Tierra, and Javier Plascencia of Finca Altozano.

Homeplace

Homeplace PDF Author: John Lingan
Publisher: HarperCollins
ISBN: 0544930835
Category : Travel
Languages : en
Pages : 281

Book Description
An intimate account of country music, social change, and a vanishing way of life as a Shenandoah town collides with the twenty-first century Winchester, Virginia is an emblematic American town. When John Lingan first traveled there, it was to seek out Jim McCoy: local honky-tonk owner and the DJ who first gave airtime to a brassy-voiced singer known as Patsy Cline, setting her on a course for fame that outlasted her tragically short life. What Lingan found was a town in the midst of an identity crisis. As the U.S. economy and American culture have transformed in recent decades, the ground under centuries-old social codes has shifted, throwing old folkways into chaos. Homeplace teases apart the tangle of class, race, and family origin that still defines the town, and illuminates questions that now dominate our national conversation—about how we move into the future without pretending our past doesn't exist, about what we salvage and what we leave behind. Lingan writes in “penetrating, soulful ways about the intersection between place and personality, individual and collective, spirit and song.”* * Leslie Jamison, author of The Empathy Exams

Book Description
Sixty country days and sixty country nights-that's all I wanted.I needed to get away from the city, away from the hot mess that had become my life. When I stumbled upon my childhood home on RentBnB.com, I took it as a sign, cleaned out my life savings, and hightailed it to the only place that ever meant something to me, a place I hadn't seen since a lifetime ago.Only when I arrived to the familiar South Dakotan farmhouse, I was met by a brooding, we-don't-take-kindly-to-strangers cowboy by the name of River McCray, who insisted this was his house and most definitely not a rental property.I'd been internet scammed. And that cocky, smart-mouthed stranger had the nerve to make me a humiliating offer: I could stay in his house for the next two months rent-free, but I had to work for him. With no money and nowhere else to go, I agreed. But nothing could have prepared me for the tension, the attraction, and the bombshell revelatiosn that changed ... everything.

International Coordinating Group on Vaccine Provision for Cholera, Meningitis and Yellow Fever

International Coordinating Group on Vaccine Provision for Cholera, Meningitis and Yellow Fever PDF Author:
Publisher: World Health Organization
ISBN: 9240029168
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 25

Book Description
The 2020 Annual Meeting of the International Coordinating Group (ICG) on Vaccine Provision took place virtually on 23 and 24 September 2020. The Chair on Day 1 of the meeting was Dr Olivier Ronveaux, with Dr Laurence Cibrelus taking over the role of Chair on Day 2. The agenda of the meeting is attached as Annex 1 of this report. The list of participants is attached as Annex 2. Introduction The ICG has four founding members – the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO), with the latter being the host agency for the ICG Secretariat. These member organizations were each represented by staff persons at the meeting, together with representatives from Gavi the Vaccine Alliance, which finances the vaccine stockpile, and UNICEF Supply Division (UNICEF SD) which is the main procurement agency. Although vaccine manufacturers have attended ICG annual meetings in the past, they were not present at the 2020 virtual meeting owing to the shorter and combined agenda which dealt with issues related to three vaccine stockpiles plus EVD vaccine stockpile.
