Design of Road Drainage System

Design of Road Drainage System PDF Author: S. Sachdeva
Publisher: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
ISBN: 9781727735024

Languages : en
Pages : 100

Book Description
Proper drainage system is one of the basic requirements of a road project. Poor drainage results into losses in the form of damaged roads and reduced serviceability. In spite of this, adequate priority for drainage system is rarely accorded. Funds required for a drainage system are small as compared to the enormous funds needed for development of road infrastructure and to meet the recurring losses due to poor drainage. It is necessary that due priority is given to the drainage of roads to ensure sustainability of road infrastructure. The road drainage issues which most of the cities in countries like India face today have been identified with the help of a study undertaken in Panipat city, an industrial city of Haryana, India. It also exhibits the urgent need for a rational and simple design of road drainage system. As the existing guidelines for the design of road drainage system have some shortcomings in respect of clarity on some of the design parameters and their complexity to use, the book brings forth the simplified design guidelines for the design of road side drainage system.

Design of Linear Drainage Systems

Design of Linear Drainage Systems PDF Author: Matin Naqvi
Publisher: Thomas Telford
ISBN: 9780727732224
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 268

Book Description
Guides the reader through the hydraulic design of drainage channels in which the volume of flow increases linearly from one end of the channel to the other. This book provides an introduction to the basic hydraulic parameters, covering topics required in channel flow theory.

Gravel Roads

Gravel Roads PDF Author: Ken Skorseth
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Gravel roads
Languages : en
Pages : 112

Book Description
The purpose of this manual is to provide clear and helpful information for maintaining gravel roads. Very little technical help is available to small agencies that are responsible for managing these roads. Gravel road maintenance has traditionally been "more of an art than a science" and very few formal standards exist. This manual contains guidelines to help answer the questions that arise concerning gravel road maintenance such as: What is enough surface crown? What is too much? What causes corrugation? The information is as nontechnical as possible without sacrificing clear guidelines and instructions on how to do the job right.

External Works, Roads and Drainage

Soakaway Design

Soakaway Design PDF Author: C. J. Pratt
Publisher:
ISBN: 9780851255026
Category : Drainage
Languages : en
Pages : 8

Book Description
Soakaways have been the traditional way to dispose of stormwater from buildings and paved areas remote from a public sewer or watercourse. In recent years, soakaways have been used within urban, fully-sewered areas to limit the impact on discharge of new upstream building works and to avoid costs of sewer up-grading outside a development. Soakaways are seen increasingly as a more widely applicable option alongside other means of stormwater control and disposal. This Digest describes design and construction procedures, explains how to calculate rainfall design values and soil infiltration rates, and gives some design examples. It replaces Digest 151 which is now withdrawn.

Pavement Subsurface Drainage Systems

Pavement Subsurface Drainage Systems PDF Author: Barry Rodney Christopher
Publisher: Transportation Research Board
ISBN: 9780309060158
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 56

Book Description
This synthesis will be of interest to geologists; hydrologists; geotechnical, pavement, construction, and maintenance engineers; and researchers. State department of transportation (DOT) program managers and administrators will also find it of interest. The synthesis describes the current state of the practice for the design, construction, and maintenance of pavement subsurface drainage systems. It provides information on the positive effects of good subsurface drainage and the negative effects of poor subsurface drainage on pavement surfaces. This report of the Transportation Research Board presents data obtained from a review of the literature and a survey of the state DOTs. It is a supplemental update to NCHRP Synthesis of Highway Practice 96, Pavement Subsurface Drainage Systems (1982). The synthesis provides a supplement to design issues not found in Synthesis 96, but faced by current designers, e.g., type and quality of aggregate, compaction requirements for open-graded aggregates, asphalt and cement binders, and use of geosynthetics. In addition, it describes the effects of design, construction, and maintenance decisions on the performance of pavement subsurface drainage systems.
