Book Description
Much of what we know about atoms, molecules, and the nature of matter has been obtained using spectroscopy over the last one hundred years or so. In this book we have collected together twenty chapters by eminent scientists from around the world to describe their work at the cutting edge of molecular spectroscopy. These chapters describe new methodology and applications, instrumental developments, and theory which is taking spectroscopy into new frontiers. The range of topics is broad. Lasers are utilized in much of the research, but their applications range from sub-femtosecond spectroscopy to the study of viruses and also to the investigation of art and archeological artifacts. Three chapters discuss work on biological systems and three others represent laser physics. The recent advances in cavity ringdown spectroscopy (CRDS), surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS), two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy (2D-COS), and microwave techniques are all covered. Chapters on electronic excited states, molecular dynamics, symmetry applications, and neutron scattering are also included and demonstrate the wide utility of spectroscopic techniques. - Provides comprehensive coverage of present spectroscopic investigations - Features 20 chapters written by leading researchers in the field - Covers the important role of molecular spectroscopy in research concerned with chemistry, physics, and biology

The robust range of topics once again demonstrates the wide utility of spectroscopic techniques. New topics include ultrafast spectroscopy of the transition state, SERS/far-uv spectroscopy, femtosecond coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy, high-resolution laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and biosensors, vibrational optical activity, ultrafast two-dimensional spectroscopy, biology with x-ray lasers, isomerization dynamics and hydrogen bonding, single molecule imaging, spectra of intermediates, matrix isolation spectroscopy and more. - Covers spectroscopic investigations on the cutting edge of science - Written and edited by leading experts in their respective fields - Allows researchers to access a broad range of essential modern spectroscopy content from a single source rather than wading through hundreds of scattered journal articles

Frontiers in Electronics

Frontiers in Electronics PDF Author: Yoon-Soo Park
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9789812796912
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 442

Book Description
The 2002 Workshop on Frontiers in Electronics was the third in the series of WOFE workshops. Over 70 leading experts from academia, industry, and government agencies reported on the most recent developments in their fields and exchanged views on future trends and directions of the electronics and photonics industry. The issues they addressed ranged from system-on-chip to DNA doping, from ultrathin SOI to electrotextiles, from photonics integration on the ULSI platform to wide band gap semiconductor devices and solid state lighting. The rapid pace of electronic technology evolution compels a merger of different technical areas, and WOFE-02 provided a unique opportunity for cross-fertilization of the emerging fields of microelectronics, photonics, and nanoelectronics. The workshop was informal and stimulated provocative views, visionary outlooks, and discussions on controversial issues. Contents: Optical Wave Propagation in Periodic Structures (A Yariv & S Mookherjea); MEMS Technology for Advanced Telecommunication Applications (H-G Lee et al.); Low Temperature Physics at Room Temperature in Water: Charge Inversion in Chemical and Biological Systems (A Yu Grosberg et al.); Materials for Strained Silicon Devices (P M Mooney); System-on-Chip Integration (R R Doering); Nanoelectronics: Some Current Aspects and Prospects (R Hull et al.); Electrotextiles (E Ethridge & D Urban); System Impact of Silicon Carbide Power Devices (B Ozpineci et al.); Hot-Phonon Limited Electron Energy Relaxation in AIN/GaN (A Matulionis et al.); Polar-Optical Phonon Enhancement of Harmonic Generation in Schottky Diodes (B Gelmont et al.); Environmental Sensing of Chemical and Biological Warfare Agents in the THz Region (A C Samuels et al.); Thermal Management in Optoelectronics (D K Johnstone); Spectral Response Measurements of Short Wave Infrared Detectors (SWIR) (T F Refaat et al.); Full-Chip Power-Supply Noise: The Effect of On-Chip Power-Rail Inductance (C W Fok & D L Pulfrey); Quantum Dot Superlattices in a Constant Electric Field: Localization and Bloch Oscillations (R A Suris & I A Dmitriev); and other papers. Accurate Structure Determination of Free Molecules

Accurate Structure Determination of Free Molecules PDF Author: Jean Demaison
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030604926
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 291

Book Description
This book presents a detailed look at experimental and computational techniques for accurate structure determination of free molecules. The most fundamental property of a molecule is its structure – it is a prerequisite for determining and understanding most other important properties of molecules. The determination of accurate structures is hampered by a myriad of factors, subjecting the collected data to non-negligible systematic errors. This book explains the origin of these errors and how to mitigate and even avoid them altogether. It features a detailed comparison of the different experimental and computation methods, explaining their interplay and the advantages of their combined use. Armed with this information, the reader will be able to choose the appropriate methods to determine – to a great degree of accuracy – the relevant molecular structure.

Frontiers of Optical Spectroscopy

Frontiers of Optical Spectroscopy PDF Author: Baldassare Di Bartolo
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1402027516
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 765

Book Description
Advanced spectroscopic techniques allow the probing of very small systems and very fast phenomena, conditions that can be considered "extreme" at the present status of our experimentation and knowledge. Quantum dots, nanocrystals and single molecules are examples of the former and events on the femtosecond scale examples of the latter. The purpose of this book is to examine the realm of phenomena of such extreme type and the techniques that permit their investigations. Each author has developed a coherent section of the program starting at a somewhat fundamental level and ultimately reaching the frontier of knowledge in the field in a systematic and didactic fashion. The formal lectures are complemented by additional seminars.
