Book Description
What are the problems, pressures, and needs of those who pastor the people of God? How can the fellowship of believers encourage and minister to these key members of the church family? The aim of this book is to provide some answers for these questions. Christians care about their ministers, elders, shepherds, priests, and pastors whatever the title may be for it is they who bear the burden of leadership. These pastors are the Moses, the Joshuas, the Davids, and the Timothys, the men God has called to speak his Word, bring guidance to the faithful, comfort the bereaved and afflicted, work with the rebellious, and encourage the hopeless. What, though, can the saints do to hold up the arms of those whom God has placed over them in spiritual authority? First, the leaders can be appreciated for who they are. Ministers are often seen as superstars, perfected saints, dictators, deluded persons, eccentrics, holier-than-thou types, and stuffed shirts. Such caricatures are usually errant and never helpful. Second, the problems peculiar to church ministry can be understood in relation to the minister. The real life of the pastor is often hidden, either intentionally or unintentionally, from the congregation. And third, believers can come to a fuller understanding of their relationship to Gods appointed authorities in the body. The shepherd is a sheep too, but has been made a shepherd of sheep; nevertheless, he is still one of the sheep. There will never be a perfect pastor. And there will not need to be as long as we know there cannot be. Jesus, who is himself the Head of the Body, is the only perfect one. Our Minister is perfect, wholly trustworthy and faithful, the King who will never fall offthe throne.

How To Help Your Pastor

How To Help Your Pastor PDF Author: Ashish Raichur

Book Description
Those of us who are parents know that while raising children, there are times when we bring out the spanker, although we most often shower them with love! This is not because we hate our children but because we want to raise them up to be strong people. Likewise, when we want to raise strong people in the church, we need to teach them what they are supposed to do in the house of God. Unfortunately, there is not much teaching on this subject and everyone tends to do what they think is right. People in the church do whatever is on their minds and end up pulling the church in different directions and thus the church goes nowhere! If each one does what he or she thinks is right, we will have a house full of chaos and confusion. But God is not the author of confusion. With the desire to build a strong church, by raising strong people in it, I am sharing the message—“How to Help Your Pastor” through this book, believing that you will understand the motivation of my heart in doing so. Caring Pastors, Caring People

Caring Pastors, Caring People PDF Author: Marvin Andrew McMickle
Publisher: Living Church
ISBN: 9780817017002
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
With so many broken and hurting people in our congregations and in our communities, how is a church pastor supposed to address so many needs? This second volume in Judson Press¿s new ¿Living Church¿ series explores the nature of pastoral care and invites laity and clergy alike to become partners in this essentially human ministry. Beginning with the traditional core of pastoral care as a critical function of the church pastor, author, professor, and veteran pastor Marvin McMickle expands that core into a second circle of care¿as the pastor equips and empowers church members to partner in caring for one another. Finally, McMickle throws open the doors of the church and challenges pastor, lay leaders, and church members alike to extend their ministries of pastoral care to the local community, through ministries of advocacy, justice, healthcare, education, and service. A richly reflective and utterly practical resource, this volume deepens the church¿s understanding of pastoral care¿and expands that compassionate and priestly ministry in the church and in the world.

The Care Revolution

The Care Revolution PDF Author: John W. Bosman
Publisher: Outreach, Incorporated (DBA Equip Press)
ISBN: 9781946453341
Category : Pastoral care
Languages : en
Pages : 378

Book Description
There is a missing link in our ministry efforts Somewhere along the line, we have erroneously made pastoral care the sole responsibility of the pastor. We assumed the clergy are the ones that do ministry, while the laity watches ministry being done. We need a new paradigm For the most part, we provide crisis care instead of pastoral care in our churches. The ensued problem is that when the crisis is over, so is the care. This makes people feel unattached, insecure and neglected, which often results in them falling through the cracks or slipping through the proverbial back door. The Care Revolution provides the answer. It presents a proven, efficient and workable system that enables believers to care for one another, making sure everyone experiences a sense of belonging and acceptance. When church members are trained and developed to connect and care for each other it meets a crucial need that is entirely biblical and should be part of the ongoing ministry of every congregation. Pastoral Care is a Collaborative Effort The Pastor cannot do it alone! Effective pastoral care just happens when pastors and members collaborate in their ministry-efforts. It is only when a congregation is cared for and nurtured that it becomes healthy and consequently has the ability to evangelize more effectively. A hurting and or dysfunctional church simply cannot do it. Evangelism and pastoral care are not contrary to each other--the one depends on the other. Dr. John Bosman has been a pastor for most of his adult life. Immediately before entering into his present international ministry, he served as the lead pastor of Glad Tidings Church in Lake Charles, Louisiana, for 15 years. Under his leadership, the church grew from fewer than five hundred to a thriving congregation that now occupies a 3,000-seat, state-of-the-art worship center. John has served in both regional and national leadership roles within his denomination. He was a member of the Board of Regents of a stateside university as well as a Bible College in Russia. He is also the founder of both the JWB Institute for Leadership and Laity Development and Hamilton Christian Academy. John and his wife, Anne (who is also an ordained minister), live in Frisco, Texas. Together, they minister nationally and internationally. They have three children and five grandsons.

How to Keep the Pastor You Love

How to Keep the Pastor You Love PDF Author: Jane A. Rubietta
Publisher: InterVarsity Press
ISBN: 0830898638
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 193

Book Description
Who cares for your pastor in times of special need? What can you do to help your pastor's family on a regular basis? Are there steps you can take to ensure your pastor is personally and spiritually nurtured? While Paul urges the church to "overwhelm them with appreciation and love" (1 Thessalonians 5:13), research and anecdotal evidence shows that most pastors experience little support when they need it the most. The result? One long-time pastor reports that he thinks about quitting the ministry as often as twice a week, and an estimated twenty-five percent of all ministers relocate every year. In How to Keep the Pastor You Love Jane Rubietta explores the "flip side" of pastoral care--caring for your pastor. She breaks down the largely unexamined myth of the superhuman pastor. And she provides everything you need to know to build healthy, caring, mutually sustaining relationships among your church and its leaders. Ministers and their families can profitably read the book along with lay leaders to become more aware of where they need the help and encouragement of their congregations. Questions at the end of each chapter guide pastoral families in reflecting on their own experiences--both positive and negative--of life in the church.

Partners in Care

Partners in Care PDF Author: Frederick Reklau
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 160899628X
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 150

Book Description
The needs for and the benefits of holistic health care--care that extends to the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of individuals--have been well known for 2,500 years or so. But still, to quote the late Rodney Dangerfield, some caregivers "don't get no respect." Fred Reklau is out to change that with this book, offered as an exploration of the synergies possible among those who care for persons. In the 1980s he wrote the theses that formed the core of this book. Since then they have helped many, in groups and singly, to see their work in a new light. Chaplains, pastors, parish nurses, lay caregivers, hospice workers--all will rejoice to read this heartfelt plea to elevate them to equal status with the vital care-giving services performed by physicians, psychologists, psychiatrists, and other members of the medical professions.
