The Topkapi Scroll

The Topkapi Scroll PDF Author: Gülru Necipoğlu
Publisher: Getty Publications
ISBN: 0892363355
Category : Art
Languages : en
Pages : 414

Book Description
Since precious few architectural drawings and no theoretical treatises on architecture remain from the premodern Islamic world, the Timurid pattern scroll in the collection of the Topkapi Palace Museum Library is an exceedingly rich and valuable source of information. In the course of her in-depth analysis of this scroll dating from the late fifteenth or early sixteenth century, Gülru Necipoğlu throws new light on the conceptualization, recording, and transmission of architectural design in the Islamic world between the tenth and sixteenth centuries. Her text has particularly far-reaching implications for recent discussions on vision, subjectivity, and the semiotics of abstract representation. She also compares the Islamic understanding of geometry with that found in medieval Western art, making this book particularly valuable for all historians and critics of architecture. The scroll, with its 114 individual geometric patterns for wall surfaces and vaulting, is reproduced entirely in color in this elegant, large-format volume. An extensive catalogue includes illustrations showing the underlying geometries (in the form of incised “dead” drawings) from which the individual patterns are generated. An essay by Mohammad al-Asad discusses the geometry of the muqarnas and demonstrates by means of CAD drawings how one of the scroll’s patterns could be used co design a three-dimensional vault.

Geeta Enlightened

Geeta Enlightened PDF Author: Yogi Mahajan
Publisher:
ISBN: 9788120802797
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 202

Book Description
The revelation of timeless spiritual message of Lord Krishna is dramatically set in a battlefield, though it happened to be the only place where such a message had its poignance. Through its brilliant casting and superb plots the subtle difference between the ego and the spirit, between myth and reality becomes apparent. Thus the Geeta is a prenote to faciliate the seeker to recognize truth from untruth. It directs the Spirit`s ascent through winding mind alleys of conditioning, concepts and projections into the threshold of Absolute Truth. Rejecting the path of self-torture or escapism it suggests the Divine union in the market place--even in the mundane task of household chores. In the new light thrown by Sri Mataji Nirmala Devi on the subject, Yogi Mahajan gathers the dried-up leaves of the text so far burried under the weight of priesthood and brings them back to life for the seeker of Truth.

Songs of Shoreless Winds

Songs of Shoreless Winds PDF Author: Nivedita Singh Tomar
Publisher:
ISBN: 9788194211280
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 168

Book Description
Songs of Shoreless Winds can be defined best as the plain flow of the author's heart and obviously her untouched thoughts. At myriad moments whatever things gripped her heart, they did find expression in poems that her pen spilt. Somewhere, it's the author's attempt to be at ease with herself, to find peace. Somewhere, it's a misadventure on her part to cross into the territory of love. She mostly has tried to seek life through each and every word of her poems. There is a meaning to life. Maybe, the author feels that she is going to spend her whole life in search of that meaning. "Songs of Shoreless Winds" is an ardent effort in that exact direction. Will winds be able to be harboured at the correct shore or not? This isn't the real question at all. Reality is the journey undertaken by winds in their quest. This journey is making the author up a bit by bit.
