In this book, they describe the key dimensions of “collaborative coaching,” a learner-centered approach to coaching that emphasizes covenant-building, deep spiritual curiosity, care-filled listening, ethical awareness, attention to bodies and places, parallel learning, careful sermon analysis, and the art of asking excellent questions. In the final section of the book, practitioners provide examples of this kind of coaching in practice.

Ways of the Word

Ways of the Word PDF Author: Sally A. Brown
Publisher: Fortress Press
ISBN: 1506410308
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 283

Book Description
Preaching, and the discipline of preaching, is at a crossroads. The changing realities of church and theological education, the diversity of our classrooms, and our increasingly complex community contexts leave us in search of tools to help train a rising generation of preachers for a future whose contours are far from clear. The questions are immense: How to support preachers in contexts that are diverse religiously, culturally, and ethnically, both inside and outside the church? How to help students take varied contexts seriously as they are formed as leaders? In Ways of the Word, a dynamic team of master preachers brings much-needed help. Different in race, gender, age, and tradition, both Sally A. Brown and Luke A. Powery speak with one voice their belief that preaching is Spirit-empowered event: an embodied, vocalized, actively received, here-and-now witness to the ongoing work of God in the world. They aspire to help students and preachers alike to reflect on a journey of learning by doing. They aim to help preachers to become more attuned to the Spirit, more adept in preaching’s component skills, and more self-aware about all that is at stake in proclaiming the redemptive work of God in specific contexts.

Publisher: Kregel Academic
ISBN: 0825443288
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 176

Book Description
A resource to help pastors correctly identify the big idea of a passage and apply it well Preaching with Accuracy provides preachers with a method for finding the “big idea” in each passage of the Bible, since correctly identifying the main point is key to accurately conveying the essential theology of the passage. Pelton lays out a reliable, well-informed method for identifying the main point of a preaching passage and understanding that passage well in its context. Numerous examples are given at each step of the way to show how meaning develops throughout the process of interpretation. Pelton then guides the preacher through applying a Christ-centered hermeneutic that will result in biblical sermons that benefit and equip believers.

Learn to Preach the Bible

Learn to Preach the Bible PDF Author: Jimmie "tri" Evans III
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781086082548
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 120

Book Description
My goal in writing this book is to help busy pastors and laymen who may not be able to go to seminary, do not have time to read the multiple tomes written about preaching, or are overwhelmed by the volume of such books. Perhaps he is bi-vocational (which we all know is a code word for full-time job plus a full-time pastorate) and has wrestled with attaining excellence in the pulpit on a weekly basis. Maybe he has an MDiv but has grown stale in his study and needs a fresh perspective. These are common experiences among pastors, so I share my solution-a simple process for preparing sermons that are faithful to God's Word. The process outlined in this book is designed to maximize the value of time which can be afforded to sermon preparation. When the week is closing in and your study time feels compressed, Sunday's sermon still must be prepared. In those moments, a defined process which is simple, easy to use, and stays true to Scripture will serve you well. I believe you will find the information and instructions in this book beneficial in such a way.The information within the book is written in a conversational tone. However, the content is a condensation of scholarly work and hermeneutical theory. This book has been divided into two major sections: Ideology and Methodology. The first major division will deal with the ideology behind the process; why we do it the way we do. We must begin with similar views on the value, power, and importance of the Bible if we are going to be able to convey its truth well. The process in this book is based on a high view of Scripture as God's Word. The major presupposition underlying this process is that the Word of God is inerrant, infallible, and written by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Thus, it seemed important to establish a starting place from where we can all move forward together with a shared understanding of how to approach God's Word. The second major division is the process itself. After an introductory segment, each of the short chapters in that section will deal with a different step in the process. Although the process is divided into steps, it is not intended to become a robotic, factory-like process. The purpose of the steps is to give you a method to work through a passage in the Bible and discover the truth within it, then, to convey that truth to your audience in an understandable way. One of my goals has been to keep this as simple as possible while also respecting the importance of the task. Another goal is to give you a tool which you can start using the first week you read it.
