Book Description
Excerpt from Scenes From the Life of St. Paul and Their Religious Lessons Few books are more serviceable to the Church Of Christ than those which furnish help to the teachers of others. I can hardly hope that the slight performances here presented to the reader can attain this end at all. If they do, in however small a degree, I shall be very thankful. Book Description
Excerpt from Scenes From the Life of St. Paul This book, it is hoped, will meet a want long felt by many of the teachers in our Sunday-schools, It is essentially a class-book for our elder scholars, -and 'aims at giving such an account of the great Apostle of the Gentiles as will enable our young people to form some notion of the struggle amidst which the Christian religion was planted in the world. The writer kept steadily in view the fact that he was preparing a class-book to be read, not in one or two sittings, but in short portions, spread over many weeks. This will account for some repetitions which might otherwise seem out of place. At the same time, feeling that such a book might prove acceptable to many of the younger members of our congregations, the writer has tried to throw in the repetitions he thought necessary in the way least calculated to make them tedious to the more continuous reader. Book Description
Excerpt from Lessons on the Life of St. Paul: Drawn From the Acts and the Epistles One word as to the chronology here adopted. It should be understood by both teachers and scholars that all New Testament dates are, within certain limits, conjectural. There is no clew in Gospels, Acts, or Epistles, to the exact year of any single event or writing. The only thing to be done, in such a work as this, is to determine, on the best evidence obtain able, some one date, and arrange the entire history in accordance with that. Having adopted ad. 33 as the year of Christ's crucifixion, and ad. 34 as that of Paul's conversion, the other dates are determined by these; not as certainly correct, but as on the whole the most probable.
