The writer kept steadily in view the fact that he was preparing a class-book to be read, not in one or two sittings, but in short portions, spread over many weeks. This will account for some repetitions which might otherwise seem out of place. There is no clew in Gospels, Acts, or Epistles, to the exact year of any single event or writing. The only thing to be done, in such a work as this, is to determine, on the best evidence obtain able, some one date, and arrange the entire history in accordance with that. Having adopted ad. 33 as the year of Christ's crucifixion, and ad. 34 as that of Paul's conversion, the other dates are determined by these; not as certainly correct, but as on the whole the most probable.
