Common Sense Education

Common Sense Education PDF Author: Zarra III PhD
Publisher: Rowman & Littlefield
ISBN: 1475825129
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 194

Book Description
The 2015 passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) has again changed education for public schools and communities. Common Core is now optional and the role of Secretary of Education has been limited by no longer incentivizing states, as done under Common Core. This book analyzes the new direction today’s schools must pursue for student learning and their success beyond high school. States and local educational agencies are once again empowered and will have more authority over curriculum and assessment. Common Sense Education includes samples from these states, ideas from several universities which are retooling their teacher education programs and focusing on teacher excellence, as well as schools recalibrating their programs for student learning. This book advocates for common sense education, uses a national survey to provide parent and teacher perspectives, and suggests a new paradigm for exciting twenty-first century high schools.

Physics of the Plasma Universe

Physics of the Plasma Universe PDF Author: Anthony L. Peratt
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461227801
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 373

Book Description
During the past decade our understanding of plasma physics has witnessed an explosive growth due to research in two areas: work directed toward controlled nuclear fusion and work in space physics. This book addresses the growing need to apply these complementary discoveries to astrophysics. Today plasma is recognized as the key element to understanding the generation of magnetic fields in planets, stars and galaxies, the accel- eration and transport of cosmic rays, and many other phenomena occurring in interstellar space, in radio galaxies, stellar atmospheres, quasars, and so forth.

Cell and Molecular Biology of Artemia Development

Cell and Molecular Biology of Artemia Development PDF Author: A. Warner
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1475700040
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 432

Book Description
The brine shrimp Artemia has become an important experimental system for studies of the developmental process. In recent years the shrimp has yielded considerable information on the pattern of development, bio chemistry, and gene structure and expression of crustaceans. This book is a compilation of research activity from twenty five of the most active re search laboratories working with brine shrimp in the above areas. It also represents the proceedings of a NATO Advanced Research Workshop held in Montreal, Canada, August 11-13, 1988. The book contains twenty nine full papers covering the major areas discussed at the workshop. In addition, one page abstracts representing seventeen poster presentations which were given at the workshop, and which were deemed to be most relevant to the theme of the book, are included. These are designated with an [al in the Table of Contents following the title of each paper. A considerable amount of discussion which took place during the workshop has not been included in the book because of space limitations. However, the editors will endeavour to make some of this in formation available at a later date through the Artemia Newsletter. In addition to the high percentage of invited speakers who attended and contributed to the workshop, the organizers would like to thank a number of participants who made valuable contributions to the major dis cussion sessions. These include: John Freeman, Michael Horst, Herman Slegers, Jack Vaughn, Frank Conte, Sandy McLennan, Clive Trotman and Patrick Sorgeloos.

Heterologous Gene Expression in E.coli

Heterologous Gene Expression in E.coli PDF Author: Nicola A. Burgess-Brown
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781493968879
Category : Escherichia coli
Languages : en
Pages : 429

Book Description
This detailed volume provides a toolbox for designing constructs, tackling expression and solubility issues, handling membrane proteins and protein complexes, and exploring innovative engineering of E. coli. The topics are largely grouped under four parts: high-throughput cloning, expression screening, and optimization of expression conditions, protein production and solubility enhancement, case studies to produce challenging proteins and specific protein families, as well as applications of E. coli expression. Written for the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step, readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Authoritative and practical, Heterologous Gene Expression in E. coli: Methods and Protocols serves molecular biologists, biochemists and structural biologists, those in the beginning of their research careers to those in their prime, to give both an historical and modern overview of the methods available to express their genes of interest in this exceptional organism.
