Book Description
The Tao Te Ching is surely the most terse and economical of the world's great religious texts. In a series of short, profound chapters, it elucidates the idea of the Tao, or the Way--an idea that in its ethical, practical and spiritual dimensions has become essential to the life of China's enormously powerful civilization. In the process of this elucidation, its author Laotzu both clarifies and deepens those central religious mysteries around which our life on earth revolves.

Book Description
When you lose your place in the world, you need only return to stillness. Through stillness, you return to the Way. These are the words from the Tao te Ching, which presents timeless wisdom about following the way of nature. Tao te Ching, the Poetry of Nature is a beautiful interpretation that captures its original poetic style, and is a compilation drawn from the many ancient Chinese sages who studied it. As a tool for meditation, its simplicity has made it the most widely read text about Taoism: "While carrying on with life in your head, can you embrace its mystery and not let go?" Celebrating what is timeless and valuable about existence, the second section of this book includes a collection of ancient Taoist poetry.

The Way of Nature

The Way of Nature PDF Author: Zhuangzi
Publisher: Princeton University Press
ISBN: 0691179743
Category : Comics & Graphic Novels
Languages : en
Pages : 253

Book Description
"The Way of Nature brings together all of Tsai's beguiling cartoon illustrations of the Zhuangzi, which takes its name from its author. The result is a uniquely accessible and entertaining adaptation of a pillar of classical Daoism, which has deeply influenced Chinese poetry, landscape painting, martial arts, and Chan (Zen) Buddhism. Irreverent and inspiring, The Way of Nature presents the memorable characters, fables, and thought experiments of Zhuangzi like no other edition, challenging readers to dig beneath conventional assumptions about self, society, and nature, and pointing to a more natural way of life. Through practical insights and far-reaching arguments, Zhuangzi shows why returning to the spontaneity of nature is the only sane response to a world of conflict."--Provided by publisher

Book Description
Tao Te Ching was written by Laozi for the rulers of his time. What does his book or Tao have to do with our way of life today? Gratifying intellectual curiosity aside, the answer may depend upon how we see ourselves as humans in nature, this reality. We can be either self-governed individuals, rulers of our individual selves in political philosophy, or individual life products of mother nature in anthropology. Neither way of reasoning seems to go against Laozi's normal way of nature in social ethics. It is all about the understanding of nature: not the common view of nature we generally hold, that controlling, omniscient force bequeathed to us. Rather, Taoism embodies the behavior of nature and how best to align ourselves with it-with the way of nature-do nothing unto others. Anyone can be a Taoist. It doesn't matter who you are or what you believe. It is about what you do unto others. We all came from nature, and we ought to follow the way of nature.

Book Description
The Tao Te Ching, along with the Zhuangzi, is a fundamental text for both philosophical and religious Taoism, and strongly influenced other schools, such as Legalism, Confucianism, and Chinese Buddhism, which when first introduced into China was largely interpreted through the use of Daoist words and concepts. Many Chinese artists, including poets, painters, calligraphers, and even gardeners, have used the Tao Te Ching as a source of inspiration. Its influence has also spread widely outside East Asia, and it is among the most translated works in world literature. The Tao Te Ching has been translated into Western languages over 250 times, mostly to English, German, and French. According to Holmes Welch, "It is a famous puzzle which everyone would like to feel he had solved." The first known English translation of the Tao Te Ching was produced in 1868 by a Scottish Protestant missionary named John Chalmers, entitled The Speculations on Metaphysics, Polity and Morality of The Old Philosopher Lau Tsze. Other notable English translations of the Tao Te Ching are those produced by Chinese scholars and teachers: a 1948 translation by linguist Lin Yutang, a 1961 translation by author John Ching Hsiung Wu, a 1963 translation by sinologist Din Cheuk Lau, another 1963 translation by professor Wing-tsit Chan, and a 1972 translation by Taoist teacher Gia-Fu Feng together with his wife Jane English. The present 2017 English translation of Tao Te Ching is done by a native Chinese with a good command of both Chinese and English languages. It may be the best English translation text by so far in terms of correctness and reading comfort. By reading this English translation of Tao Te Ching, you will understand the true meaning and eastern wisdom of this classic work. The Book has 81 chapters in total and is edited in the order of original classic text--modern Chinese text--English translation.

Category :
Languages : en

Book Description
This is an abridged and English-only version of Lao Zi's Dao De Jing (Schade, 2016), which means-The Way of Nature and the Way of People. Lao Zi was a Chinese philosopher who lived during the 6th century BC but is still ahead of our time. His brilliance outshines intellectual giants such as Confucius, Sun Zi, Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. Lao Zi's aim is to teach success, which is to obtain what you seek and escape what you suffer. Success is achieved by aligning the Way of People with the Way of Nature. Lao Zi's success is secular and based on competence, rather than devotion. It is about positioning, rather than competing. Lao Zi's deep understanding of nature and people is crucial for your immediate survival and that of the next generation. We are facing overpopulation, dwindling resources, nuclear warfare, pollution, climate change, etc. We cannot solve those problems with the same way of thinking that is causing them. The brutal reality shows that our way of thinking is failing. Therefore, Lao Zi's eternal wisdom is the guiding light for our future. Its simplicity reaches peacefully across the boundaries of race, religion, spiritualism, ideology, and science.
