Nothing in medicine is to-day better demonstrated than that chancroid and syphilis are entirely distinct morbid processes. Syphilis has a distinct virus of its own; chancroid has no essential virus, and may arise de novo independently of contagion, and may be produced by the inoculation Of the products of simple inflammation.
