Parallel and Distributed Computing

Parallel and Distributed Computing PDF Author: Claudia Leopold
Publisher: Wiley-Interscience
ISBN:
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 280

Book Description
An all-inclusive survey of the fundamentals of parallel and distributed computing. The use of parallel and distributed computing has increased dramatically over the past few years, giving rise to a variety of projects, implementations, and buzzwords surrounding the subject. Although the areas of parallel and distributed computing have traditionally evolved separately, these models have overlapping goals and characteristics. Parallel and Distributed Computing surveys the models and paradigms in this converging area of parallel and distributed computing and considers the diverse approaches within a common text. Covering a comprehensive set of models and paradigms, the material also skims lightly over more specific details and serves as both an introduction and a survey. Novice readers will be able to quickly grasp a balanced overview with the review of central concepts, problems, and ideas, while the more experienced researcher will appreciate the specific comparisons between models, the coherency of the parallel and distributed computing field, and the discussion of less well-known proposals. Other topics covered include: * Data parallelism * Shared-memory programming * Message passing * Client/server computing * Code mobility * Coordination, object-oriented, high-level, and abstract models * And much more Parallel and Distributed Computing is a perfect tool for students and can be used as a foundation for parallel and distributed computing courses. Application developers will find this book helpful to get an overview before choosing a particular programming style to study in depth, and researchers and programmers will appreciate the wealth of information concerning the various areas of parallel and distributed computing.

Parallel Computing: Fundamentals, Applications and New Directions

Parallel Computing: Fundamentals, Applications and New Directions PDF Author: E.H. D'Hollander
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 9780080552095
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 745

Book Description
This volume gives an overview of the state-of-the-art with respect to the development of all types of parallel computers and their application to a wide range of problem areas. The international conference on parallel computing ParCo97 (Parallel Computing 97) was held in Bonn, Germany from 19 to 22 September 1997. The first conference in this biannual series was held in 1983 in Berlin. Further conferences were held in Leiden (The Netherlands), London (UK), Grenoble (France) and Gent (Belgium). From the outset the aim with the ParCo (Parallel Computing) conferences was to promote the application of parallel computers to solve real life problems. In the case of ParCo97 a new milestone was reached in that more than half of the papers and posters presented were concerned with application aspects. This fact reflects the coming of age of parallel computing. Some 200 papers were submitted to the Program Committee by authors from all over the world. The final programme consisted of four invited papers, 71 contributed scientific/industrial papers and 45 posters. In addition a panel discussion on Parallel Computing and the Evolution of Cyberspace was held. During and after the conference all final contributions were refereed. Only those papers and posters accepted during this final screening process are included in this volume. The practical emphasis of the conference was accentuated by an industrial exhibition where companies demonstrated the newest developments in parallel processing equipment and software. Speakers from participating companies presented papers in industrial sessions in which new developments in parallel computing were reported.

Topics in Parallel and Distributed Computing

Topics in Parallel and Distributed Computing PDF Author: Sushil K Prasad
Publisher: Morgan Kaufmann
ISBN: 0128039388
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 360

Book Description
Topics in Parallel and Distributed Computing provides resources and guidance for those learning PDC as well as those teaching students new to the discipline. The pervasiveness of computing devices containing multicore CPUs and GPUs, including home and office PCs, laptops, and mobile devices, is making even common users dependent on parallel processing. Certainly, it is no longer sufficient for even basic programmers to acquire only the traditional sequential programming skills. The preceding trends point to the need for imparting a broad-based skill set in PDC technology. However, the rapid changes in computing hardware platforms and devices, languages, supporting programming environments, and research advances, poses a challenge both for newcomers and seasoned computer scientists. This edited collection has been developed over the past several years in conjunction with the IEEE technical committee on parallel processing (TCPP), which held several workshops and discussions on learning parallel computing and integrating parallel concepts into courses throughout computer science curricula. Contributed and developed by the leading minds in parallel computing research and instruction Provides resources and guidance for those learning PDC as well as those teaching students new to the discipline Succinctly addresses a range of parallel and distributed computing topics Pedagogically designed to ensure understanding by experienced engineers and newcomers Developed over the past several years in conjunction with the IEEE technical committee on parallel processing (TCPP), which held several workshops and discussions on learning parallel computing and integrating parallel concepts

Formal Methods for Open Object-based Distributed Systems

Formal Methods for Open Object-based Distributed Systems PDF Author: Elie Najm
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 0387350829
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 408

Book Description
Object-based Distributed Computing is being established as the most pertinent basis for the support of large, heterogeneous computing and telecommunications systems. The advent of Open Object-based Distributed Systems (OODS) brings new challenges and opportunities for the use and development of formal methods. Formal Methods for Open Object-based Distributed Systems presents the latest research in several related fields, and the exchange of ideas and experiences in a number of topics including: formal models for object-based distributed computing; semantics of object-based distributed systems and programming languages; formal techniques in object-based and object oriented specification, analysis and design; refinement and transformation of specifications; multiple viewpoint modeling and consistency between different models; formal techniques in distributed systems verification and testing; types, service types and subtyping; specification, verification and testing of quality of service constraints and formal methods and the object life cycle. It contains the selected proceedings of the International Workshop on Formal Methods for Open Object-based Distributed Systems, sponsored by the International Federation for Information Processing, and based in Paris, France, in March 1996.

Fundamentals of Distributed Object Systems

Fundamentals of Distributed Object Systems PDF Author: Zahir Tari

Object-Based Distributed Programming

Object-Based Distributed Programming PDF Author: Rachid Guerraoui
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9783540579328
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 276

Book Description
Interest has grown rapidly over the past dozen years in the application of object-oriented programming and methods to the development of distributed, open systems. This volume presents the proceedings of a workshop intended to assess the current state of research in this field and to facilitate interaction between groups working on very different aspects of object-oriented distributed systems. The workshop was held as part of the 1993 European Conference on Object-Oriented Programming (ECOOP '93). Over fifty people submitted position papers and participated in the workshop, and almost half presented papers. The presented papers were carefully reviewed and revised after the workshop, and 14 papers were selected for this volume.
