Book Description
June Thomson and Giselle Ross are inextricably linked by two unspeakable acts of evil. On the same day, a few miles apart, their estranged husbands slaughtered their children. The murders were not driven by rage, or committed in moments of madness. They were planned, and carried out with chilling precision, to inflict the worst pain imaginable. June and Giselle did not know each other. Tragedy is all that binds them; they were destined to come together as 'sisters', united by pain, grief and a sense of loss so immense that it would drive both to the brink of madness. June's life with Rab Thomson had been a dark and turbulent existence, characterised by mental torture, physical violence and rape. Giselle's relationship with Ashok Kalyanjee had been a strange and distant affair, of lives spent apart before, during and after marriage. But both relationships had produced two beautiful children, and the women believed that their misery was in the past. Both mothers believed it was important to allow the fathers' access to their children. On that fateful Saturday in May 2008, neither could have conceived that the men they had once loved would do anything to harm their children. But they were wrong, so terribly wrong. Nothing can bring their children back. But June and Giselle have one solitary comfort: they are no longer alone. Their lives may have been torn apart, but they have each other. Together, they are stronger. This is the story of their parallel journeys: of the dreadful days before, during, and after the murders of their children. Told in their own words, with searing honesty of their pain, and guilt, it is a story of endurance, friendship, and survival against the odds. It is not a story for the faint hearted, but it is a story that must be told, for in the end, it is a testament to the human spirit.

Wagner Beyond Good and Evil

Wagner Beyond Good and Evil PDF Author: John Deathridge

ISBN: 0520254538
Category : Music

Pages : 320

Book Description
"This collection provides us with that rarest of objects: a genuinely new book on Wagner. Virtually every page offers fresh perspectives, some of them mined from the most unlikely of sources; indeed, the sheer eclecticism of the book, its willingness to range widely and irreverently through both popular and elite culture, is one of its greatest strengths."—Roger Parker, author of Remaking the Song: Operatic Visions and Revisions from Handel to Berio "John Deathridge is one of the most authoritative, widely-regarded Wagner scholars around in any language. Few can match his command of scholarship and primary sources, and no one else knows how to put them to such clever, provocative uses. In addition, Deathridge enjoys an impressive range of critical, historical, and literary reference. The writing is consistently lively and engaging. The collection will provide a welcome change of diet for those tired of the usual Wagnerian fare. This is a welcome contribution, indeed."—Thomas Grey, author of Wagner's Musical Prose: Texts and Contexts

Memoirs of a Jew born in Presov, Slovakia, in 1931 to the Reinitz family. In December 1942, after a wave of deportations, Gossman's father sent her and her brother to relatives in Tolcsva, Hungary. While crossing the border, they were caught by the Hungarian police and sent to the Ricse internment camp. In April 1943 their uncle, a rabbi in Tolcsva, took them to his home. In March 1944 the Jews of Tolcsva were sent to the Satoraljaujhely ghetto; soon after, Gossman and her brother fled and returned to their parents in Presov, only to be resettled the next day in Nitra, western Slovakia. The Reinitz family went into hiding in Nitra, aided by two non-Jews, Maria Krescankova and her daughter Vlastimila, and by other neighbors. Evil Beyond Belief

Evil Beyond Belief PDF Author: Wensley Clarkson
Publisher: Kings Road Publishing
ISBN: 1782192603
Category : True Crime
Languages : en
Pages : 400

Book Description
This is the shocking story of a doctor who was addicted to murder: a man who wickedly abused the trust of his patients with horrifying results. He was a pillar of the community: attentive, kind, never too busy to chat. Yet behind this charming facade lay Britain's most prolific serial killer, with at least 200 victims. Small, bespectacled Dr Shipman was making house calls - and then committing murder with bloodcurdling expertise and professionalism. He saw himself as playing God. This sensational book looks behind the man and reveals how, throughout his 25-year campaign of evil, Shipman continued to be a doting husband and father, trusted and adored by the majority of his patients. Evil Beyond Belief looks at how he was able to get away with murder for so long and - most important of all - why he was driven by a twisted, insatiable lust for death. It also looks at the events leading up to Shipman's suicide and examines the effect that this dramatic event had on the families of his numerous victims.

Book Description
It wasn t a large carcass and surprisingly there was not a lot of blood. The head had been severed and placed upon a wooden table. Each limb of the carcass was crudely hacked off with an axe and saw until only the torso remained. This was no experienced butcher, even his tools were rusty and had been used for chopping wood. The axe and saw were not meant to be used in this way. This also was no abattoir or butcher s shop, the heinous act was taking place in the kitchen of a country cottage and the carcass was not one of a beast, it was the body of a human being.

Beyond Good and Evil

Beyond Good and Evil PDF Author: Friedrich Nietzsche
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 0857088483
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 285

Book Description
A deluxe, high-quality edition of Friedrich Nietzsche’s seminal work Beyond Good and Evil is one of the final books by German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. This landmark work continues to be one of the most well-known and influential explorations of moral and ethical philosophy ever conceived. Expanding on the concepts from his previous work Thus Spoke Zarathustra, Nietzsche adopts a polemic approach to past philosophers who, in his view, lacked critical sense in accepting flawed premises in their consideration of morality. The metaphysics of morality, Nietzsche argues, should not assume that a good man is simply the opposite of an evil man, rather merely different expression of humanity’s common basic impulses. Controversial in its time, as well as hotly debated in the present, Nietzsche’s work moves beyond conventional ethics to suggest that a universal morality for all human beings in non-existent – perception, reason and experience are not static, but change according to an individual’s perspective and interpretation. The work further argues that philosophic traditions such as “truth,” “self-consciousness” and “free will” are merely inventions of Western morality and that the “will to power” is the real driving force of all human behaviour. This volume: Critiques the belief that actions, including domination or injury to the weak, can be universally objectionable Explores themes of religion and “master and slave” morality Includes a collection of stunning aphorisms and observations of the human condition Part of the bestselling Capstone Classics Series edited by Tom Butler-Bowdon,this collectible, hard-back edition of Beyond Good and Evil provides an accessible and insightful Introduction by leading Nietzsche authority Dr Christopher Janaway. This deluxe volume is perfect for anyone with interest in philosophy, psychology, science, history and literature.
