A Life of Collecting

A Life of Collecting PDF Author: Michael Fitzgerald
Publisher: ABRAMS

Category : Art
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
Unlike most collectors of European modernism, the Ganzes had the breadth of imagination to realize that certain young Americans were the true heirs of Picasso. With an unerring eye (sharpened by exhaustive study), they chose Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, and Frank Stella at the beginning of their careers, and then moved on to champion Eva Hesse. In this book of essays by John Richardson, Leo Steinberg, David Sylvester, Judith Goldman, Roberta Bernstein, Linda Shearer, and others, we learn about the art and artists in the collection, as well as the risks and commitments the Ganzes made in establishing these artists we now hail as among the masters of contemporary art.

A Collection of Poetry About Life

A Collection of Poetry About Life PDF Author: Shannon Anderson
Publisher: Fulton Books, Inc.
ISBN: 1638608326
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 75

Book Description
My book is a collection of poetry about life that is very personal to me. It touches on some of the most devastating times in my life when I had so many disappointments and setbacks in just trying to survive in this world. It talks about relationships and some life topics that affected me in my fifty years of living. I put so much of my frustrations on paper because I really didn't have anyone to talk to or who understood me. So I began to write poetry about everything I had been going through. When I gave my life back over to God, I saw that he gave me a gift of poetry, and that is when my healing process began through my writing. I always wanted to encourage other people to put their trust in God and never give up. No matter how many curveballs life throws my way, I remember my aunt always telling me weeping may endure for a night but joy cometh in the morning. So many nights I just prayed to God to be able to make it to the morning. So my pain will ease up. This is my testimony, and I am a survivor. My hope is that anyone who reads my book believes anything is possible and that they can achieve anything they put their mind to it and never let anyone control your mind or destroy your spirit.

Living la vie de château at Château Bosgouet in Normandy, Jane Webster and her Australian family have embraced the traditions of the French table with surprise and delight at each turn, from navigating the market to setting the table to making the most of a vegetable garden, and their adventures are captured here by the sophisticated eye of photographer Robyn Lea.

As a musician who grew up in New Orleans, and later worked in New York with the major swing orchestras of Lucky Millinder and Cab Calloway, Barker is uniquely placed to give an authoritative but personal view of jazz history. In this book he discusses his life in music, from the children's 'spasm' bands of the seventh ward of New Orleans, through the experience of brass bands and jazz funerals involving his grandfather, Isidore Barbarin, to his early days on the road with the blues singer Little Brother Montgomery. Later he goes on to discuss New York, and the jazz scene he found there in 1930. His work with Jelly Roll Morton, as well as the lesser-known bands of Fess Williams and Albert Nicholas, is covered before a full account of his years with Millinder, Benny Carter and Calloway, including a description of Dizzy Gillespie's impact on jazz, is given. The final chapters discuss Barker's career from the late 1940s. Starting with the New York dixieland scene at Ryan's and Condon's he talks of his work with Wilbur de Paris, James P. Johnson and This is Jazz, before discussing his return to New Orleans and New Orleans Jazz Museum. A collection of Barker's photographs,
