Introduction to the Semantic Web and Semantic Web Services

Introduction to the Semantic Web and Semantic Web Services PDF Author: Liyang Yu
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9781584889342
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 368

Book Description
Even though the semantic Web is a relatively new and dynamic area of research, a whole suite of components, standards, and tools have already been developed around it. Using a concrete approach, Introduction to the Semantic Web and Semantic Web Services builds a firm foundation in the concept of the semantic Web, its principal technologies, its real-world applications, and its relevant coding examples. This introductory yet comprehensive book covers every facet of this exciting technology. After an introduction to the semantic Web concept, it discusses its major technical enablers and the relationships among these components. The author then presents several applications of the semantic Web, including Swoogle, FOAF, and a detailed design of a semantic Web search engine. The book concludes with discussions on how to add semantics to traditional Web service descriptions and how to develop a search engine for semantic Web services. Covering the building blocks of an advanced Web technology, this practical resource equips you with the tools to further explore the world of the semantic Web on your own.

Creating the Semantic Web with RDF

Creating the Semantic Web with RDF PDF Author: Johan Hjelm
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN:
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 314

Book Description
The first state-of-the-art guide for Web developers who need to enable totally new services using metadata This book offers for the first time complete guidance for Web and content developers who use Resource Description Framework (RDF) to create Web services, both wired and wireless, for metadata, or data that is maintained by an application. Written by the W3C Fellow charged with making the W3C XML standard work with other open standards, the book clearly demonstrates how RDF and metadata can greatly improve a user's Web experience through richer, better-tailored content. The author explains RDF theory and practice and how it compares to XML and HTML in layman terms and provides source code for several important tools. He includes descriptions of real services, both for the desktop computer and the handheld wireless device, and hands-on examples illustrating how metadata is used to tailor services for users. Explanations of how RDF ties in with intelligent agents are also provided.

Semantic Web Services

Semantic Web Services PDF Author: Dieter Fensel
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9783642191930
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 357

Book Description
A paradigm shift is taking place in computer science: one generation ago, we learned to abstract from hardware to software, now we are abstracting from software to serviceware implemented through service-oriented computing. Yet ensuring interoperability in open, heterogeneous, and dynamically changing environments, such as the Internet, remains a major challenge for actual machine-to-machine integration. Usually significant problems in aligning data, processes, and protocols appear as soon as a specific piece of functionality is used within a different application context. The Semantic Web Services (SWS) approach is about describing services with metadata on the basis of domain ontologies as a means to enable their automatic location, execution, combination, and use. Fensel and his coauthors provide a comprehensive overview of SWS in line with actual industrial practice. They introduce the main sociotechnological components that ground the SWS vision (like Web Science, Service Science, and service-oriented architectures) and several approaches that realize it, e.g. the Web Service Modeling Framework, OWL-S, and RESTful services. The real-world relevance is emphasized through a series of case studies from large-scale R&D projects and a business-oriented proposition from the SWS technology provider Seekda. Each chapter of the book is structured according to a predefined template, covering both theoretical and practical aspects, and including walk-through examples and hands-on exercises. Additional learning material is available on the book website www.swsbook.org. With its additional features, the book is ideally suited as the basis for courses or self-study in this field, and it may also serve as a reference for researchers looking for a state-of-the-art overview of formalisms, methods, tools, and applications related to SWS.

ISBN: 0262304686
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 287

Book Description
A new edition of the widely used guide to the key ideas, languages, and technologies of the Semantic Web The development of the Semantic Web, with machine-readable content, has the potential to revolutionize the World Wide Web and its uses. A Semantic Web Primer provides an introduction and guide to this continuously evolving field, describing its key ideas, languages, and technologies. Suitable for use as a textbook or for independent study by professionals, it concentrates on undergraduate-level fundamental concepts and techniques that will enable readers to proceed with building applications on their own and includes exercises, project descriptions, and annotated references to relevant online materials. The third edition of this widely used text has been thoroughly updated, with significant new material that reflects a rapidly developing field. Treatment of the different languages (OWL2, rules) expands the coverage of RDF and OWL, defining the data model independently of XML and including coverage of N3/Turtle and RDFa. A chapter is devoted to OWL2, the new W3C standard. This edition also features additional coverage of the query language SPARQL, the rule language RIF and the possibility of interaction between rules and ontology languages and applications. The chapter on Semantic Web applications reflects the rapid developments of the past few years. A new chapter offers ideas for term projects. Additional material, including updates on the technological trends and research directions, can be found at http://www.semanticwebprimer.org.
