Book Description
Every family on earth and in heaven derives its name from God the Father. This means that as humans take their family names as their last names, every member of the human family on earth, has the name of God attached to their names-as their ultimate last name-for the glory of God who formed and made them out of Love, and has imparted His qualities and goodness on every single one of them. The importance of each of our last names to our lives is not so others can identify us as discrete individuals. The true importance of the last name that we each have is to reflect the values put into us in our upbringing. Our last names tell other people who we truly are! Our last name is designed by God to tell everyone we meet in life what values our family holds dear to their respective hearts. Our last name represents the journey we've made in our lives-where we have been; our experiences; our triumphs and failures-as part of our life experiences within our respective families. Our last names bear the hallmarks of the qualities our life's experiences had molded us into. According to this revelation of God, we are our last names. In much the same way human parents raise their children to grow up with certain values that would serve them well in life; God gave to all mankind His commands, and set automatic measures to keep us all in straight path, to avoid any of us falling off the cliff and plunging to our spiritual deaths. God filled the earth and the entire universe with His Grace to replenish us and restore us so we can continue to grow and mature spiritually; and to sustain all our life's processes-biological and otherwise.

The first commentary series to do so, SGBC offers a clear and compelling exposition of biblical texts, guiding everyday readers in how to creatively and faithfully live out the Bible in their own contexts. Its story-centric approach is ideal for pastors, students, Sunday school teachers, and laypeople alike. Each volume employs three main, easy-to-use sections designed to help readers live out God's story: LISTEN to the Story: Includes complete NIV text with references to other texts at work in each passage, encouraging the reader to hear it within the Bible's grand story. EXPLAIN the Story: Explores and illuminates each text as embedded in its canonical and historical setting. LIVE the Story: Reflects on how each text can be lived today and includes contemporary stories and illustrations to aid preachers, teachers, and students. —Ephesians— Like all of Paul's letters, Ephesians is centered in the gospel and its implications. It tells the story of what God has done in Christ and spells out the ethical implications of this story. But the letter to the Ephesians is unique among Paul's letters in many ways, including in how it tells of the story of God, beginning "before the creation of the world" and ending in eternity. Edited by Scot McKnight and Tremper Longman III, and written by a number of top-notch theologians, The Story of God Bible Commentary series will bring relevant, balanced, and clear-minded theological insight to any biblical education or ministry.

My Father's Tears

My Father's Tears PDF Author: Mark Stibbe
Publisher: SPCK
ISBN: 0281071772
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 156

Book Description
Taking a new look at the interrelationship of the Father and the Son at Calvary, Mark Stibbe explores the Father's agony at seeing his son in pain; the son suffering the Father's absence, and the Holy Spirit as the bond of love between the two, holding them in an eternal embrace. The author relates this to the orphan condition of separation and shame he has known personally in his own life. He suggests that in the excruciating picture of the grieving Father and the abandoned Son, we paradoxically discover the exhilarating Good News: that our true identity is as the adopted, much-loved children of a God who longs to honour and heal us.

God's Grace for Every Family

God's Grace for Every Family PDF Author: Anna Meade Harris
Publisher: Zondervan
ISBN: 0310154693
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 208

Book Description
Weaving her own story together with nine attributes of God's character revealed from Scripture, Anna Meade Harris speaks to vulnerable single parents and to churches who want to love them well. After the death of her husband, Anna Meade Harris discovered that single-parent families don't seem to have a place in the local church. Because she and her kids no longer fit into the Christian family mold, the body of Christ felt alien and strange when Anna's family needed it the most. Belonging, even in the most loving church, was a challenge. God's Grace for Every Family was born out of Anna's desire to help other families avoid feeling the loneliness that hers felt. This gospel-centered work addresses the single parent who needs to know that God sees, loves, and cares for their family. The book also addresses the church at large, in the hopes that Christians will come to understand the unique needs of single-parent families and do a better job of welcoming, valuing, and loving them. The book begins with Anna's story and then presents information about single-parent families in America, providing an understanding of their unique needs and complex dynamics. The chapters that follow each focus on a particular area of need and contain: Exegesis of Scripture demonstrating the character of God in relationship with his people Short narratives collected through interviews with single parents from a variety of backgrounds Suggestions for how the church can serve God and families This book is written for all Christians, married or single, parent or childless. It's written for widows, divorcees, and those who never married. And it's written for the congregants, pastors, leaders, and church family who wants to embrace every family and learn how to serve them well. By addressing families and the church together, God's Grace for Every Family opens the door for gracious conversations and greater unity in the family of God.
