Book Description
From Hell to Haven; Darkness to light; Negativity to Positivity; and from Cradle to Salvation, Life Journey is principally my life journey from South Sudan to Kenya and ultimately to the United States, where I was able to go to college and, in the process, was enlightened and brought into union with God. In other words, it’s the journey from that sense of being lost in spirit as a result of the initial separation from God in the garden, so to speak, two thousand years ago. After many years of having been dead in the spirit and doing what the dead in spirit do, which is being in the state of drunkenness most of the time or venturing in the ways of fools, I found God within who helped me understand what life is all about. Many years ago in South Sudan, I never would have imagined that this divine revelation would ever happen to me. I never knew that when I would come to the United States, God would show himself to me and change my life and bestow me with the gift of the Holy Spirit. I never knew even coming to the United States, let alone the revelation of himself to me. Finally, his love for us—his love for us is ever lasting and enduring. God’s love for us is inseparable. He loves us more, and he wants us to love each other in return. Love being the final stage in life, God wants to teach us to love one another just like he loved us and freed us from the grip of sins and death and bathed us with his love. This is the love of God for me. The manifestation of his love is the basis for this book.

That All Shall Be Saved

That All Shall Be Saved PDF Author: David Bentley Hart
Publisher: Yale University Press
ISBN: 0300248733
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 247

Book Description
A stunning reexamination of one of the essential tenets of Christian belief from one of the most provocative and admired writers on religion today “A scathing, vigorous, eloquent attack on those who hold that that there is such a thing as eternal damnation.”—Karen Kilby, Commonweal The great fourth-century church father Basil of Caesarea once observed that, in his time, most Christians believed that hell was not everlasting, and that all would eventually attain salvation. But today, this view is no longer prevalent within Christian communities. In this momentous book, David Bentley Hart makes the case that nearly two millennia of dogmatic tradition have misled readers on the crucial matter of universal salvation. On the basis of the earliest Christian writings, theological tradition, scripture, and logic, Hart argues that if God is the good creator of all, he is the savior of all, without fail. And if he is not the savior of all, the Kingdom is only a dream, and creation something considerably worse than a nightmare. But it is not so. There is no such thing as eternal damnation; all will be saved. With great rhetorical power, wit, and emotional range, Hart offers a new perspective on one of Christianity’s most important themes.

Book Description
From disagreement over an Islamic Center in New York to clashes between Christians and Muslims in Egypt, tension between the three Abrahamic faiths often runs high. Yet for all their differences, these three traditions-Judaism, Islam, and Christianity-share much in common. Three Testaments brings together for the first time the text of the Torah, the New Testament, and the Quran, so that readers can explore for themselves the connections, as well as the points of departure, between the three faiths. Notable religion scholars provide accessible introductions to each tradition, and commentary from editor Brian Arthur Brown explores how the three faiths may draw similarities from the ancient Zoroastrian tradition. This powerful book provides a much-needed interfaith perspective on key sacred texts.

Hating God

Hating God PDF Author: Bernard Schweizer
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 0199781346
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 256

Book Description
While atheists such as Richard Dawkins have now become public figures, there is another and perhaps darker strain of religious rebellion that has remained out of sight--people who hate God. In this revealing book, Bernard Schweizer looks at men and women who do not question God's existence, but deny that He is merciful, competent, or good. Sifting through a wide range of literary and historical works, Schweizer finds that people hate God for a variety of reasons. Some are motivated by social injustice, human suffering, or natural catastrophes that God does not prevent. Some blame God for their personal tragedies. Schweizer concludes that, despite their blasphemous thoughts, these people tend to be creative and moral individuals, and include such literary lights as Friedrich Nietzsche, Mark Twain, Zora Neale Hurston, Rebecca West, Elie Wiesel, and Philip Pullman. Schweizer shows that literature is a fertile ground for God haters. Many authors, who dare not voice their negative attitude to God openly, turn to fiction to give vent to it. Indeed, Schweizer provides many new and startling readings of literary masterpieces, highlighting the undercurrent of hatred for God. Moreover, by probing the deeper mainsprings that cause sensible, rational, and moral beings to turn against God, Schweizer offers answers to some of the most vexing questions that beset human relationships with the divine.

Not a Fan

Not a Fan PDF Author: Kyle Idleman
Publisher: Zondervan
ISBN: 0310331951
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 239

Book Description
Pastor Kyle Idleman doesn’t just want to be a fan of Jesus, he wants to full heartedly commit to him and be a follower of Jesus. But how can you make the leap from fan to follower? In Not a Fan Idleman uses biblical examples to show how the people who met Jesus also had to decide if they were fans or followers, and what it meant for them to then become followers. Being a follower doesn’t mean that you go to church every week, that you slap a Jesus fish on the back of your car, and that you give to charity. That’s what a fan does. What a follower of Jesus does, Idleman observes, is die to themselves each and every moment of the day because “you can’t say yes to following Jesus unless you say no to living for yourself.” In this three part book Idleman helps you to discover whether you are a fan or a follower, how to recognize the invitation Jesus has given, and what following Jesus looks like in your daily life. With humor and real life examples to draw you closer to Jesus, Kyle Idleman compels each and every one of us to Not Be A Fan
