Book Description
The community and technical college mission requires offering relevant Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. Board policies are plentiful for creating new programs in alignment with workforce needs. However, few districts have robust policies in place to appropriately discontinue or replace CTE programs. This book identifies successful CTE program discontinuance including how people feel about the process and the impact of institutional culture. The interviews and policy analysis conducted provide best practices to effectively and appropriately discontinue CTE programs. Eleven practical recommendations are outlined to help community and technical colleges in establishing program discontinuance processes which strategically and effectively discontinue CTE programs while making optimal use of limited fiscal and human resources. This book provides readers with information on career and technical education, appropriate strategies to manage the constant churning of CTE programs, college governance, and academic discontinuance policies.

Shifting Power in Asia-Pacific?

Shifting Power in Asia-Pacific? PDF Author: Enrico Fels
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 331945689X
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 768

Book Description
This book investigates whether a power shift has taken place in the Asia-Pacific region since the end of the Cold War. By systematically examining the development of power dynamics in Asia-Pacific, it challenges the notion that a wealthier and militarily more powerful China is automatically turning the regional tides in its favour. With a special emphasis on Sino-US competition, the book explores the alleged linkage between the regional distribution of relevant material and immaterial capabilities, national power and the much-cited regional power shift. The book presents a novel concept for measuring power in international relations by outlining a composite index on aggregated power (CIAP) that includes 55 variables for 44 regional countries and covers a period of twenty years. Moreover, it develops a middle power theory that outlines the significance of middle powers in times of major power shifts. By addressing political, military and economic cooperation via a structured-focused comparison and by applying a comparative-historical analysis, the book analyses in depth the bilateral relations of six regional middle powers to Washington and Beijing.

Book Description
The importance of effective facility management in enabling organizations to function efficiently is widely recognized. The fourth edition of Total Facility Management offers a comprehensive treatment of what facility management means to owners, operators, tenants, facility managers and professional advisors, as well as containing advice on how facilities can be better managed from a number of perspectives. It consolidates current best practice, defines and develops emergent areas and offers a pathway for the future development of facility management. The facility management body of knowledge now benefits from the publication of several national and international standards, none of which were available when earlier editions of the book were published. The opportunity has been taken to modify the structure and content of this new edition to align it with these standards to provide readers and their organizations with a comprehensive treatment of the subject. Greater emphasis has been given to facility planning, especially the briefing stage in the design of a new or refurbished facility; design for operability; stakeholder management; outsourcing; procurement; transition; performance management; environmental management; sustainability; maintenance management; information management and building information modelling (BIM). Throughout the book, the links between facility management practice and the organisation’s business objectives are emphasised. Readers worldwide will find this fourth edition a valuable and thought-provoking blend of the principles and practice of facility management.

Entrepreneurial Strategies of Professional Service Firms

Entrepreneurial Strategies of Professional Service Firms PDF Author: Andreas B. Günther
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3658240911
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 310

Book Description
Over the past years, knowledge-intensive industries have gained significant importance as economic factor, giving rise to professional service firms (PSFs) such as law firms, accounting firms, or consultancies. Following this development, the research interest especially in the strategies pursued by PSFs has grown substantially. However, past research focused mainly on strategies of established, mature PSFs, leaving academics as well as potential entrepreneurs without guidance on what newly founded, entrepreneurial PSFs should pay attention to in order to ensure lasting competitive advantages. Based on an explorative grounded theory analysis of two outstanding commercial law firm spin-offs in Germany, this work advances the research in this field. In addition to a detailed case study report, it offers a comprehensive theoretical framework and argues that PSFs have to employ a set of seven specific entrepreneurial strategies – including for example service delivery, people development, and client acquisition strategies – in order to successfully manage the entrepreneurial phase. In providing examples for the growing PSF industry, the findings on commercial law firm spin-offs also inform entrepreneurship research in other professions
