Complex Analysis and Dynamical Systems

Complex Analysis and Dynamical Systems PDF Author: Mark Agranovsky
Publisher: Birkhäuser
ISBN: 3319701541
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 372

Book Description
This book focuses on developments in complex dynamical systems and geometric function theory over the past decade, showing strong links with other areas of mathematics and the natural sciences. Traditional methods and approaches surface in physics and in the life and engineering sciences with increasing frequency – the Schramm‐Loewner evolution, Laplacian growth, and quadratic differentials are just a few typical examples. This book provides a representative overview of these processes and collects open problems in the various areas, while at the same time showing where and how each particular topic evolves. This volume is dedicated to the memory of Alexander Vasiliev.

The aim is to present these in a manner that will be challenging but enjoyable, and broadly accessible to anyone with a genuine interest in mathematics. Features Suitable for any undergraduate student who has successfully completed the standard calculus sequence of courses and a standard first (or second) year linear algebra course Filled with visual proofs of fundamental theorems Contains numerous exercises (with their solutions) accessible to undergraduate students Serves as both a textbook or as a supplementary text in an elective course in combinatorics and aimed at a diverse group of students interested in mathematics

A Panorama of Hungarian Mathematics in the Twentieth Century, I

A Panorama of Hungarian Mathematics in the Twentieth Century, I PDF Author: Janos Horvath
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3540307214
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 639

Book Description
A glorious period of Hungarian mathematics started in 1900 when Lipót Fejér discovered the summability of Fourier series. This was followed by the discoveries of his disciples in Fourier analysis and in the theory of analytic functions. At the same time Frederic (Frigyes) Riesz created functional analysis and Alfred Haar gave the first example of wavelets. Later the topics investigated by Hungarian mathematicians broadened considerably, and included topology, operator theory, differential equations, probability, etc. The present volume, the first of two, presents some of the most remarkable results achieved in the twentieth century by Hungarians in analysis, geometry and stochastics. The book is accessible to anyone with a minimum knowledge of mathematics. It is supplemented with an essay on the history of Hungary in the twentieth century and biographies of those mathematicians who are no longer active. A list of all persons referred to in the chapters concludes the volume.
