Immortal Captives

Immortal Captives PDF Author: Mauriel Joslyn
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 370

Book Description
Immortal Captives is two books in one. Mauriel Joslyn has used the story of 600 Confederate prisoners of war to provide insight into the larger questions about prisoner of war issues in the Civil War. Combining original scholarship with full quotations from the participants in the events she describes, she has created both a memorial to the captured officers who came to be held at Fort Pulaski, Georgia and a good history. The policies of President Abraham Lincoln, Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grant, in addition to those of lower ranking Union leaders come under reevaluation in this story. The Union deliberately chose 600 Confederate officers from fourteen Southern states for its policy of retaliation. Against humanity, those officers were forced to face the artillery fire of their comrades when they were placed in a stockade in Charleston Harbor from August to October of 1864. Their ordeal continued when they were moved to Fort Pulaski for the winter. The last of them were not released until July 1865, months after the war ended.

The Immortal 600

The Immortal 600 PDF Author: Karen Stokes
Publisher: Arcadia Publishing
ISBN: 1625840578
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 129

Book Description
In 1864, six hundred Confederate prisoners of war, all officers, were taken out of a prison camp in Delaware and transported to South Carolina, where most were confined in a Union stockade prison on Morris Island. They were placed in front of two Union forts as "human shields" during the siege of Charleston and exposed to a fearful barrage of artillery fire from Confederate forts. Many of these men would suffer an even worse ordeal at Union-held Fort Pulaski near Savannah, Georgia, where they were subjected to severe food rationing as retaliatory policy. Author and historian Karen Stokes uses the prisoners' writings to relive the courage, fraternity and struggle of the "Immortal 600."

Book Description
Haunting her ever since his death, Mark would always carry around her brother's urn enduring the whispers that would accuse her at every turn. Now a prisoner, those whispers have become louder and with them hallucinations of the thing she truly did not want to be.Mark is alone now, or that's what she wanted. However, life is a funny thing, it seldom grants people wishes without a price. Sometimes she can't tell what's reality and what's an illusion, the voice of her brother resounded from the urn she carried, chanting the words traitor, traitor. At first they were whispers, things she could ignore, things she could disregard. She was so close to ridding herself of them, into the open flame that night, but as fate would have it, life decided to be unkind and take away her wish in a blaze of fire and shrapnel. Throwing her into a place where those whispers became shouts and the only remedy was the feeling of a blade in her hands.

Book Description
When a routine hanging goes wrong and a murderer somehow survives the noose, the man announces he is an immortal. And not just any immortal, but Cayal, the Immortal Prince, hero of legend, thought to be only a fictional character. To most he is a figure out of the Tide Lord Tarot, the only record left on Amyrantha of the mythical beings whom fable tells created the race of half-human, half-animal Crasii, a race of slaves. Arkady Desean is an expert on the legends of the Tide Lords so at the request of the King's Spymaster, she is sent to interrogate this would-be immortal, hoping to prove he is a spy, or at the very least, a madman. Though she is set the task of proving Cayal a liar, Arkady finds herself believing him, against her own good sense. And as she begins to truly believe in the Tide Lords, her own web of lies begins to unravel...
