Retaliation of The Cursed

Retaliation of The Cursed PDF Author: Stephen Arthur Martin Jr.
Publisher: FriesenPress
ISBN: 1039113672
Category : Religion

Pages : 197

Book Description
Retaliation of the Cursed: A Historical Investigation of The Origins of Worship, World Religion, Mythology, Paganism, Astrology and Atheism, and Their Contributions Leading to Modern Hinduism is a sweeping look at the ancient cross-cultural flows that worked to shape the long legacies of the major religions, right up to our contemporary moment. Primarily grounded in examining the Sumerian, Akkadian, Greek, Egyptian, Pagan, and biblical origins of various religious figures, practices, and beliefs, but drawing on a wide array of mythologies that stretch beyond this, this book is stunning in its scope and impressive in the rich, fascinating detail in which it presents its findings. Ultimately, author Stephen Martin makes a compelling case for the shared origins of the world’s great religions, arguing that by reincorporating many previously excommunicated spiritualities and atheisms, Hinduism manifested itself as the complex, multi-faceted cosmology it is today. As well-suited to an amateur audience as it would to a professional theologian, this book is sure to make an excellent read for anyone interested in studies of comparative religion or ancient civilizations—or those simply interested in better understanding the roots of the religious beliefs and spiritual practices of themselves and those around them.

Crucified and Cursed Christ

Crucified and Cursed Christ PDF Author: Elkanah K. Cheboi
Publisher: Langham Publishing
ISBN: 1839739452
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 217

Book Description
The practice of cursing remains a significant aspect of life in many African countries. This book addresses this practice with the seriousness it deserves, arguing that Christ is the ultimate curse remover. Dr. Elkanah K. Cheboi examines the meaning and implications of the Pauline statement in Galatians that “Christ became a curse for us.” Drawing from biblical passages referencing judicial curses, and the widespread practice of cursing and blessing within the Ancient Near East and Greco-Roman world, he investigates how the crucified and cursed Christ provides the ultimate solution to the power and dominion of curses. Demonstrating the insufficiencies of curse remedies, both in the ancient world and the modern African context, this study offers christological insight into the implications of Christ’s death not simply for human sin but also human curses. Dr. Cheboi specifically examines parallels between the New Testament context and Kenya’s Marakwet culture, where curses are still deeply feared as life-threatening and generational. Offering powerful insight into aspects of contemporary African culture not always fully understood, this book integrates biblical scholarship with practical application and is an excellent resource for pastors, missionaries, and theologians alike.

Cursed Are You!

Cursed Are You! PDF Author: Anne Marie Kitz
Publisher: Penn State Press
ISBN: 1575068745
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 541

Book Description
This is a book about curses. It is not about curses as insults or offensive language but curses as petitions to the divine world to render judgment and execute harm on identified, hostile forces. In the ancient world, curses functioned in a way markedly different from our own, and it is into the world of the ancient Near East that we must go in order to appreciate the scope of their influence. For the ancient Near Easterners, curses had authentic meaning. Curses were part of their life and religion. They were not inherently magic or features of superstitions, nor were they mere curiosities or trifling antidotes. They were real and effective. They were employed proactively and reactively to manage life’s many vicissitudes and maintain social harmony. They were principally protective, but they were also the cause of misfortune, illness, depression, and anything else that undermined a comfortable, well-balanced life. Every member of society used them, from slave to king, from young to old, from men and women to the deities themselves. They crossed cultural lines and required little or no explanation, for curses were the source of great evil. In other words, curses were universal. Because curses were woven into the very fabric of every known ancient Near Eastern society, they emerge frequently and in a wide variety of venues. They appear on public and private display objects, on tomb stelae, tomb lintels, and sarcophagi, on ancient kudurrus and narûs. They are used in political, administrative, social, religious, and familial contexts. They are the subject of incantations. They are tools that exorcise demons and dispel disease; they ban, protect, and heal. This is the phenomenology of cursing in the ancient Near East, and this is what the present work explores.

Spiritual Warfare

Spiritual Warfare PDF Author: John Labriola
Publisher: WestBow Press
ISBN: 1512715948
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 148

Book Description
Spiritual Warfare is intended to be a basic training manual for beginner Christians. The man or woman of God needs to be equipped with the knowledge and understanding of the fight Christians are in and the weapons and tools available in order to wage effective spiritual warfare in our everyday lives for the advancement of the kingdom of God in these last days. It is important to understand the constant spiritual battle Christians are in, who one is in Christ Jesus, the nature of God and His love, and the nature of the enemy and his tactics. Spiritual Warfare is set up as a study book with Scriptures and references so the reader can independently look up and study the Scriptures. This allows for the verification of these teachings, and as the reader studies these Scriptures, he or she may gain a greater understanding of the Word of God and spiritual warfare. As Christians take up arms in this battle, it is God, who always leads us in His triumphal procession in Christ Jesus and through us everywhere spreads the fragrant knowledge of Him [Jesus] (2 Corinthians 2:14). Followers of Christ are to be ambassadors of the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world, and it is God’s will for such followers to be well-equipped for a victorious outcome.

Cursed in New England

Cursed in New England PDF Author: Joseph A. Citro
Publisher: Rowman & Littlefield
ISBN: 1493032216
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 320

Book Description
New Englanders are always cursing. But a colorful profanity uttered by some stero-typically taciturn old Yankee is usually more humorous than menacing. Yet, true maledictions (the opposite of benedictions) have frequently been spoken on New England soil, curses intended to invoke evil, injury, or total destruction against other people. Stories about preternatural revenge are numerous in Yankee lore, with each New England state providing its favorites. You’ll read about curses that were followed by the strange disappearance of a father and daughter in Rhode Island, mysterious afflictions in Massachusetts, a river of death in Maine, an unaccountable blight in New Hampshire, unexplained madness in Connecticut, and other eerie happenings from New England’s colorful history. Some are well known, at least regionally. Others are nearly forgotten. Within these pages, storyteller Joseph A. Citro vividly brings these tales to life, letting us decide if these tales of woe were bad luck or . . . something else.
