Security in Disarmament

Security in Disarmament PDF Author: Richard A. Falk
Publisher: Princeton University Press
ISBN: 1400875110
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 451

Book Description
The risks of arms control and disarmament, how they can be reduced or eliminated, and the political implications of drastic disarmament are analyzed by eleven experts. Emphasis is placed on the development of techniques for disarming that are politically feasible and give reasonable assurance to each side that the other is not violating its obligations for any serious reason. Three major aspects of the problem are considered: how to get the disarmament process started, and once started to continue it how to retain the freedom of diplomatic action that might be needed to defend national interests; and how to approach the problems of political security in a fully disarmed world. Originally published in 1965. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. Policies for Common Security

Policies for Common Security PDF Author: Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI)
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1000023982
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 280

Book Description
The basic idea of common security is not complex. It is that no country can obtain security, in the long run, simply by taking unilateral decisions about its own military forces. This is because security depends also on the actions and reactions of potential adversaries. Security has to be found in common with those adversaries. These ideas were considered in a SIPRI conference held in 1983. The conference had two main objectives. The first was to undertake a critical examination of the concept. The second was to consider the implications of the idea for policy in general, and for disarmament and arms control policy in particular. Originally published in 1985, this book contains revised versions of some of the papers presented at the conference.

Relationship between Disarmament and International Security PDF Author: United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs
Publisher: United Nations
ISBN: 9210585119
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 64

Book Description
This study was prepared by a group of experts appointed by the Secretary-General pursuant to General Assembly resolution 33/91 I of 16 December 1978, following a decision by the General Assembly at its tenth special session, contained in paragraph 97 of its Final Document (resolution 5-10/2). It calls attention to the immense dangers and detrimental effects of the arms race. It analyses the connection between disarmament and international security and provides many useful insights. It also stresses that efforts towards disarmament and towards strengthening of international security can and must reinforce each other, so as to promote progress in both fields.
