Jeder, der ihn gepilgert ist, weiß, dass neben der Meditation die Begegnungen mit anderen Menschen in den Herbergen oder unterwegs einen erheblichen Teil der Faszination Jakobsweg ausmachen. Wunderschöne, abwechslungsreiche, zuweilen aber auch sehr einsame, öde Landstriche durfte ich durch die Jakobswege kennenlernen. Ich bin eingetaucht in die Geschichte Spaniens und Portugals, die mir aus Schulzeiten nur rudimentär bekannt war und habe in den Dörfern das andere Spanien jenseits von Mallorca und Barcelona erfahren. Gerade das Ankommen und Leben in den kleinen Ortschaften Spaniens und Portugals mit ihren archaischen Strukturen war sehr prägend und hat zur Ruhe und Gelassenheit beigetragen, die mir (zumindest vorübergehend) zu Teil wurde.
